Artificial intelligence Jesus chatbot sparks debate over future of faith For some evangelical Christians, a personal relationship with Jesus is central to their faith. Now, a tech company called Just Like Me is offering to take that concept to an unprecedented level, allowing users to engage in video calls with an artificial intelligence-generated avatar of Jesus for $1....

When you see one set of footprints, that’s because a chatbot is non-corporeal.

Press conference at the conclusion of the meetings of the bishops of the Texas/Mexico border.
“In these massive detention centers, migrants are relegated to anonymity and oblivion. Their own families do not know where they are. This is fundamentally unjust.”

I've seen enough: It's Dave Wasserman. Or John Milhiser if you prefer early 2010s SNL to encyclopedic political coverage.

“Unconscionable,” Jon thought as he found an email address online for the lead prosecutor, Joseph Dernbach, who was named in the story. Peering through metal-rimmed glasses, Jon opened Gmail on his computer monitor.

“Mr. Dernbach, don’t play Russian roulette with H’s life,” he wrote. “Err on the side of caution. There’s a reason the US government along with many other governments don’t recognise the Taliban. Apply principles of common sense and decency.”

That was it. In five minutes, Jon said, he finished the note, signed his first and last name, pressed send and hoped his plea would make a difference.

Five hours and one minute later, Jon was watching TV with his wife when an email popped up in his inbox. He noticed it on his phone.

“Google,” the message read, “has received legal process from a Law Enforcement authority compelling the release of information related to your Google Account.”

A retiree wrote this email to a DHS attorney. Within five hours, DHS demanded Google turn over records for his account.

A Kafkaesque form of domestic surveillance, intimidating Americans for lawful speech.

Cardinal Tobin: Pray, mourn and say 'no' to ICE funding In a reflection delivered during an online interfaith prayer service hosted by Faith in Action, Tobin employed some of the strongest language yet by a U.S. cardinal to condemn the Trump administration...

Cardinal Tobin regarding ICE funding: "I think if we are serious about putting our faith in action, we need to say 'no,' each one of us. What saying ‘no’ looks like today is by telling the truth about what is happening and honoring those whose lives are upended.” www.ncronline.org/news/cardina...

Catholic sisters, clergy & lay leaders have been standing with immigrants in the US since the beginning. When I worked for a diocese in '13, a group of nuns led an immigration reform prayer vigil outside our local rep's office for 30 days in a row. Rising to the moment now because it's in the DNA.

Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
