I haven’t been on here in ages! But I selfishly needed to come on to see that people are still using R. Being pushed hard at work to move to Python while I sit at my desk …

WHAT?!?! How did I not know that? Please remind me in a year - I’m bound to forget.
Haha. Been there, done that.
Graph from NYT article. Two bar plots of data over time from 2025-2034 showing cost of tax cuts. First graph shows decreasing amount from about 200 million to something negative, around -50 billion. The second graph (traditional way of accounting) starts about the same and quickly increases to between about 400-600 billion for all other years.
From the NYT article titled, “Republicans Prepare to Open ‘Pandora’s Box’ of Budget Gimmicks” more evidence of how hard it is to count things. Or maybe how different the answer can be depending on which way you do it.
I can’t find three other options to make the “where to download R packages” category. #RStats
I’ll check this out. At work I can’t use gt because our version of R is too old 😭. Gonna do more investigating. Thank you!
#rstats I’m looking for a package that allows you to easily combine ggplot graphs with a table underneath. Think of having categorical variable on xaxis with box plots and then a table below with some basic stats - count, mean, etc. I know this exists! What is it?
Yes!!!
That’s from last year, but a great reminder that we should do another one! @amelia.mn @canoodleson.bsky.social @lindseydietz13.bsky.social … right?

Thank you so much for this! I’ve been using these methods at work and have been searching for something to confirm that I’ve been doing it appropriately. Your example was so fitting! And I love that it’s short and to the point.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve searched for a flowchart package in R. The ones I’ve tried so far have been clunky. Not sure when I’ll get around to trying this since we’re on an ancient version of R at work, but keeping on my list!
In addition to also being an R lover, it looks like our dogs might be long lost siblings.
Thanks! Its currently frozen in -20° F temps 🥶
Yes! I think about this a lot as an open source user at a large company. I love seeing how the Pharmaverse has come together to contribute open source tools. How could other industries do the same.
Great article, @kellybodwin.bsky.social !
I feel this!
Amazing and congrats! When I was teaching, I loved having my students plot my cycling data. It’s a fun one to use gganimate, too 😀. Happy swim, bike, run!
Aww! Thank you! Glad I didn’t give you a heart attack 😂
I also like your graph but I was distracted by your name 😂
Essentially my work is telling me that they need to use the binary files instead of the source files. And that this means all our computers would need a c compiler.
Going back to my roots to ask all the stupid #rstats questions. Can someone tell me when I might need a C compiler on my Windows computer to install an R package? More than what is in Rtools. Getting way out of my comfort zone talking to IT support at work and want to be as informed as possible.
I don’t think tidyverse will be the only package you miss. Base R is great to get you started but not lasts so long. I stole this analogous from someone else, “It’s like a smart phone with only the default apps.”” Technically functions but less than satisfying.
Yay!!! You are here 😀
Hey!! It’s like the good ole’ days!
Since joining here about a week ago, I’ve already had so many “how did I miss that?” moments. My fomoRs is growing (fear of missing out on R stuff).
Ahhh! Yay! So good to “see” you again.
Ohhh, I’ll need to check out rStrava!
Oh yes! Thanks for the reminder. And thanks for not using the word AI 😃
