One of the most powerful moments of the day came from Emily Whitehead who told the story of how she was the first pediatric patient to receive CAR T-cell therapy for her leukemia at age 5: “I stand up for science because science saved my life. And that’s a fact.” @standupforscience.bsky.social

Daily or Nondaily Vaping and Smoking Cessation Among Smokers This cohort study examines associations of vaping with long-term tobacco cessation among US cigarette smokers who used electronic nicotine delivery systems.

Is this the beginning of the end of 'vaping' being the lesser evil myth?
In this study e-cigarette use was NOT associated with smoking cessation.
In fact vaping was associated with REDUCED TOBACCO ABSTINENCE, suggesting that it may PROLONG both smoking and nicotine dependence.

Figure 4. B. burgdorferi-induced gynecological pathologies worsen with increased age of female mice at time of infection.

Older female mice, who are past their reproductive age, showed more disease when infected with Lyme compared to younger female mice. Age is a key factor in how Lyme affects the body. - In fact we have more work on this topic spearheaded by @bleeeve243.bsky.social www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

We call this one “Borrelia touched a nerve”. You're seeing a cluster of Borrelia burgdorferi, adipose cells, and a nerve.

We call this one under attack. You're seeing Borrelia burgdorferi, inside the body, surrounded by immune cells.

The never before seen Borrelia burgdorferi caught in the act of making trouble in our mouse model of borrelia infection-associated chronic illness. I feel so grateful to get to collaborate with Kunzan Liu (who took these sunning images), and Sixian You who makes the invisible visible.
