"You label people 'white supremacist' just for believing that nonwhites shouldn't enter the country" is a bold move

Nadja Spiegelman is apparently Art's daughter, and based on this op-ed that seems to be one of the more heinous nepo-baby situations out in the world today
The Looney Tunes end card, with the slogan "That's all Folks!"
This is seriously the most badass verse I know, words and delivery:
"If you don't believe me, guaranteed
You'll never leave me," on my way
And out of you...
So just shut your face! And take a seat!
'Cause after all, you're just talking meat!
And music?
Well, it's just entertainment folks!
Eat your beets
Recycle, recycle
Don't eat your beets
Recycle, recycle

I feel the same way about the guy from Morbid Angel being super into Sailor Moon and My Little Pony
In the Brains' version, it's an excuse from a girl who wants more. But when the song comes from the girl's perspective, with the same overwhelmed and bewildered tone, it's clear that this is not a mercenary act, it's someone who is as helpless in the face of market forces as the man she's leaving.
Cyndi Lauper's version of "Money Changes Everything" is the gold standard in genderswapped pop songs. By a simple shift of perspective ("she said" → "I said") the song changes from a kinda bitchy complaint about a gold digger to a rumination on surviving capitalism.

https://www.splcenter.org/resources/hatewatch/battle-berkeley-name-freedom-speech-radical-right-circling-ivory-tower-ensure-voice-alt/ May 1, 2017 “The fake news, the mainstream media, was there, and they wanted to paint this picture that the Trump supporters were there for violence. And it was completely wrong,” Tim Treadstone, a former BuzzFeed social media strategist who goes by the name “Baked Alaska,” told Infowars. Treadstone painted the event as a protest for constitutional rights, not that unlike efforts of a generation ago. “Everyone should be standing up for free speech, even if you’re a liberal,” Treadstone said. “We felt we had to go and not only defend Ann, but defend everyone’s right to free speech.” But that question of free speech, and the fear of violence as a movement of antifascist protesters calling itself the “Black Bloc,” poses a challenge for colleges and universities, traditionally hotbeds of left-wing activists.
Thanks. I also found the attached, which is much newer and still seems to do the DNCC "alt right?! what about the alt left?" thing.
That being said, my general sense is still that the SPLC is good people who are a bit square, not that the SPLC doesn't, usually, at heart, align with my values.
Any detail/links on the antifa issue? I thought SPLC was okay on that.
I guess, generally, I've thought they were a pretty okay mainstream group (if a bit too love-me-I'm-a-liberal for my tastes) but I've only seen criticism from the right, and it's all sucked.

Orban is one of the few examples where I'd agree with you. He achieved power when the centrists and leftists who should have stood in his way were too weakened by internecine conflict and schismatism.
I don't disagree entirely, but you're leaving out the part where fascism usually arrives in power through a right-center alliance. Mussolini's anticommunism and appeal to national dignity. Hitler and the Enabling Act. The center only switches sides when it's too late, is where we are now.
If you can't win in a field where the other team is constantly cheating and the umpires have been bribed generously to allow it, well, you're not actually losing the game.
And in that situation, anything you can do to dispel the aura of legitimacy your opps and the umpires claim is time well spent.
A sightengine.com analysis of the cover art to Ken Boothe & Jah Wobble's "Old Fashioned Ways" (an imagine of an old rasta sitting on a porch, smoking at sunset) showing a 99% likelihood of being generated by GPT.
We have reached the point historically where artists I have a lot of respect for are implicated in "AI" "art" and I just want to shout futilely into the void: please stop, I want so badly to support artists, sometimes you make it morally ambiguous to do
It's maybe the first time I've seen Piers Morgan speaking to someone with the actual full level of unearned confidence that Piers Morgan has†, and it's absolutely not something Piers Morgan is in any way prepared for.
† Roger Waters is objectively right, I'm not arguing on the points here
I've had luck with a very similar system to yours, but with a few (just a few!) holes drilled in the plastic lid. This is probably climate/location-dependent, but in New England a little flow is enough to keep the humidity down while still retaining enough moisture for the vulnerable babies.
lol, you're calling "75-year-olds running fax machine repair businesses" capitalists (with an exclamation point)
I can't help you, I've unfollowed you, I wish you the best and hope you never have meaningful influence over anyone
You will only ever have one life and you're spending it trying to defend a point you don't even understand on the internet. I wish you well, but I can't imagine I have anything to learn from you. All the best.
Your actual words: "past-their-prime businesses stocking a bunch of crap that nobody wants"
Still want to defend your choice of language?
Please read theory before you ever post again
Again, the explicit subject is RETAILERS who RENT. Categorically non-holders of capital.
I'm going to have to insist you read some Marx before you go posting on the internet like an adult.
Yes, which doesn't apply in this case, as the subject is retailers who rent
You absolute rube, I figure @stephenjacobsmith.com was just effusive in his enthusiasm for his bad ideas, but you actually looked at the term and its usage and felt confident to incorrect a stranger on the internet
Using "capitalists!" with an explanation point to talk specifically about people who you don't feel are pulling their weight income-wise is an interesting choice.
Clue me in if this is a joke! Because I get that both men played up a contentious/fractured relationship for yuks for years after the partnership ended, but for the past 5-10 years (at least since Herring's cancer) it's come off as very personal, bitter, and completely free of punchlines
you sound EXACTLY like Graham Linehan
he’s playing 4 dimensional chess. he’s take the pieces and sticking them up his nose. he’s eating the board. he’s setting the room on fire while he’s inside. he’s drawing something on the wall in his own poop. it’s a giraffe. underneath he’s writing the word elephant. it’s spelled wrong.
I think the history of Politics, properly studied, might show you that many people with skeletons in their closet crave power, power, POWER
Crom Cruach!
The whole article doesn't fit in this box, it's titled "Statutory Rape Is an Outdated Concept" and you can probably find it online. Critical, to me, is that Dershowitz seems to be suggesting we should lower the consent from 18 to 15, radically redefining our notion of what constitutes a "child" in terms of who Alan Dershowitz is permitted to have sex with, and even then we should only apply a standard with gradations to account for Romeo & Juliet situations, meaning the age of consent would be "15 or younger." "Based on the demographic criteria, the age of consent should be lowered. It certainly should not be as high as 17 or 16. Reasonable people can disagree over whether it should be as low as 14. Fifteen would seem like an appropriate compromise. Perhaps there should be staircasing below 15 with the penalty increasing inversely with the age of the victim."
Oh I forgot a big one.
I absolutely believe Alan Morton Dershowitz (b. 1934) is a pedophile, based on his otherwise-inexplicable authorship in 1997—as a 58 year-old man—of an op-ed titled "Statutory Rape Is an Outdated Concept," the sole purpose of which is to legitimize predation on teenage girls.
I attended a service at their old location and it is the only time in my life I would say that I visited a church as a believer
I heard they'd shut down, but your link has cleared things up. It looks like they're in more of a theater space now? I will go again if I make it out thataways again
bsky goes out of its way to make it hard to respond to people who block you, I'm not typing this shit out OR switching back-and-forth with my alt account to copy-paste the text, but if you are vision-impaired and want context just reply and I will make the effort @compensating.bsky.social is a shit
Since this user, whoseems to be spiraling out in their apparently shameless defenses of rape, blocked me for this inoffensive comment: here's the context
@compensating.bsky.social is a real turd, eminently flushable, just wanted to make sure this post came up in any searches for their handle.
