We marched for independence and against racism

Our "A Scotland for All - Against Racism and Fascism" bloc on Saturday's Believe in Scotland march for independence united around 50 people from a range of organisations and none.

With thousands of people, the independence movement defied the intimidatory tactics of the far-right, who screamed racist and transphobic epithets from a tiny counter-protest - where one speaker repeatedly performed a Nazi salute. There were many, many more of us than them.

While Britain’s largest-ever march against the far-right was taking place in London, we were bringing the politics of the anti-racist movement to the independence march in Edinburgh.

Our anti-racist and anti-fascist bloc for Saturday’s Believe in Scotland march in Edinburgh is growing bigger all the time.

This bloc has been jointly organised by the Radical Independence Campaign, the Scottish Socialist Youth, the Republican Socialist Platform, rs21 Scotland and others. We invite all anti-racists to join us.

Join us on Saturday 28th March as we bring an anti-racist and anti-fascist message to the Believe in Scotland march in Edinburgh.

The “A Scotland for All – Against Racism and Fascism” bloc will assemble on the steps of St Giles’ Cathedral from 11.30am.

The Scottish independence movement can and should be a powerful force in resisting the billionaire-backed campaign to scapegoat migrants for the failures of successive UK governments.

Racism has no place in an independent Scotland.

Support for Scotland’s artistic and cultural revival in all its languages

Solidarity with the struggles for workers’ rights, democracy and self-determination, based on internationalism from below

Equality and opposition to discrimination on grounds of sex, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, religion/belief, disability or age

Action to establish universal health care, education, housing, income, pensions and trade union rights; and to win land reform and challenge environmental degradation.

Action based on the sovereignty of the people not the UK Crown, leading to the setting up of a Constituent Assembly.

For a democratic, secular, socially just and environmentally sustainable Scottish republic.

Only a mass movement from below can deliver an independent Scotland with LGBT+ rights firmly embedded in its constitution. Join us!

We also defend the right of Maggie Chapman MSP and others, inside and outwith our national parliament, to criticise the Supreme Court without penalisation. We urge SNP and Labour MSPs not to support the Tory campaign for her removal from Holyrood’s equalities committee.

We welcome the enormous solidarity demonstrations which have taken place outside UK government offices and we encourage independence supporters to support further demonstrations wherever and whenever they take place.

The Radical Independence Campaign expresses solidarity with trans people in Scotland and across the UK in light of a significant rolling back of trans rights. Independence supporters in particular should find nothing to celebrate in last week’s ruling from the same Supreme Court which vetoed our national right to self-determination.

Only a mass movement from below can deliver an independent Scotland with LGBT+ rights firmly embedded in its constitution.
