It's going to cost non-US countries more since we are the ones relying on oil coming through from the gulf.

Just wait for Trump to put export restrictions on oil & fuel next, so that the US is less affected by global price hikes.

I mean why use a Cron job like a Neanderthal when you can get an AI agent to read the clock every minute

TIL that the default for RHEL systems is for the journal to be non-persistant.

That's crazy bro. You have some kind of crash, end up rebooting, then you have no way to find out why it crashed.

No matter how outlandish the question I ask of AI, it always starts out with "It's a common scenario ..."

Hmm. There are existing databases (and APIs) that allow autocompleting a full address given the first few characters.

Shoe-horning LLMs into existing use cases served well by much leaner technologies does not seem like a win.

Same. I used to have great conversations with my mum about politics etc. Now it's hard to sustain any conversation at all. It's beyond the stage where I worry about distressing her - she can't understand anyway. 😒

Black and white border collie cross dog

What breed is she? Reminds me a lot of my doggie (except Sadie has a lot more white on her back)

You don’t get rich from your own labour - at best only comfortable.

Getting rich means exploiting other people’s labour and/or gambling in markets; most people pick property and call it investing.

From the POV of a non-US citizen: If you ever get a decent government again they might be in a better position to argue for better gun controls given that the main supposed rationale for gun ownership - to keep a rogue government in check - has been demonstrated not to work.

Adorable, and looks a bit like my own rescue dog.

Worse than scomo? That's hilarious

Australia is too. But tbh I think our leaders are all assuming things will go back to "normal" after 28 so they don't want to burn bridges.

Risky assumption I'd say.

Yeah but that's ALDI right? They surely deserve a special category

They all have cell phones which means they have access to an open sewer of misinformation, more like.

Youtube music seems to have been overrun with AI slop.

I often have it going when I am working. Lately every 5th track seems to be AI.

I really wish clippy had an option to filter out complaints about code not touched in the index or something like that.

It's giving a load of lints in unmodified files which presumably passed master in an early version. While they might need fixing I don't want those changes mixed in.

Unfortunately it has been entangled in the political backlash against "woke".

Some perceive the rust community to be "too tolerant" of various minorities.

Others seem to think having a compiler that stops you from misusing memory amounts to a violation of their right to bear arms.

I've seen a lot of news lately about artists authors etc lobbying for regulations around AI being trained on their work. But no-one seems to bat an eyelid about it being trained on the whole of GitHub.

Even the briefest of searches on this Magika tool reveals that it's primary use case is for detecting malicious files that might have content contrary to its filename.

This Lunduke "Journal" feed is full of terrible takes.

That's not the story people want to hear. Sub editors know they have to write headlines that will get attention. Old fashioned click bait really.

I don't think the designers of vs code have gotten their heads around the concept of "permanently"

Probably should cap it at $3m (indexed) full stop. People with balances above that level don't need help saving for their retirement.

Copy of tweet from Mark Carney replying to Anthony Albanese

Why do centre-left politicians post on X? Under both these tweets there are nothing but hate filled negative replies from MAGAs and (probably) bots. Why try to push positive messages into that environment?

Absolutely, and thats the basis to attack it. And the hearsay ... "a friend of Elon's friend says the hospital is getting ripped off" I mean who takes that seriously?
