"The report forecasts $26 billion in baseline investment in Australian data centres over that period, equating to roughly $3.1 million in capital for every permanent operational job."

"One of the report’s infographics places 9,600 data centre operational jobs alongside a figure of 935,000 broader tech sector jobs ... The presentation implies the wider tech workforce depends on data centre expansion here."

$3.1m per job: does the employment case for data centres stack up? For every $3.1 million invested in data centre infrastructure, according to the industry’s own figures, Australia gets one permanent data centre job.

'Rather than the 935,000 data centre jobs trumpeted by lobbyists, the underlying Mandala report projects 17,900 operational data centre jobs by 2030, requiring 8,300 new workers on top of the current 9,600 data centre jobs.' www.theage.com.au/technology/3...

Solar manufacturing capacity is approx double demand. Same with wind nacelles and batteries.
The problem with Chinese manufacturing is not overcapacity!
It's UNDERDEMAND.
But how will it look as 2 x big fossil fuel supply shocks sink in?

Despite all the limitations of the work, it's very interesting! And, I should add, it's not a holistic evaluation of whether the various PT policies of each state are 'good' or not.

It's unclear to me whether the authors did difference-in-difference tests to determine whether the effect sizes (23.7% of NSW survey respondents shifting some commuting trips from car to PT vs 26.3% in Victoria) are statistically different, but with that sample size and methodology I'm not confident

What effect has Victoria's free PT had on usage vs NSW? A survey of 2,000 people after one week suggests, 'not much'. "Victoria’s free PT may have helped at the margins, but it did not produce a markedly different outcome from states that did not intervene." theconversation.com/victoria-has...

Endless summer: How the hottest season gained 49 days in 33 years By 2023, Sydney’s warmest season lasted 125 days – up from 76 days in 1990. Within a few decades, it could stretch for half the year.

'Defined by climate rather than dates, scientists have found that Summer has expanded by six days every decade globally. This is 50% faster than was previously revealed by older research. The transitions between seasons are also more abrupt.' www.theage.com.au/environment/...

Every time anyone mentions which player had the most assists, headed goals, free kicks or won the most penalties in Premier League history, I know that it wouldn't be possible without me having sourced & personally analysed around 7000 goals from 1992 to 1999 on VHS tapes from ebay and other sources

Even if Victor Orbán is ousted on Sunday, Hungary’s return to liberal democracy is not guaranteed | Gabriela Greilinger and Cas Mudde Challenger Péter Magyar is no progressive – and after 16 years of creeping authoritarianism, the PM has embedded Fidesz in the Hungarian state, say Gabriela Greilinger and Cas Mudde of the University ...

The chances are very good that Orbán will lose the election this weekend. But even IF Peter Magyar becomes PM, we shouldn’t expect too much from him.
