My son got a book about secretary birds and we went to YouTube to find a video to watch how they hunted snakes and...my god, it's just AI slop EVERYWHERE. "Educational" content that is completely overrun with fake AI videos.

YouTube is cooked.

Hire Junior Employees Abandoning junior roles in your company is a life-or-death bet that AI will eventually replace ALL roles.

Hire junior employees!

Warren Buffet’s Final Letter as Berkshire Hathaway’s CEO You must read Warren Buffet’s final letter to shareholders as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.

You MUST go and read Warren Buffet's final letter to shareholders as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. Seriously - take 15 minutes, grab a cup of coffee or tea, print it out, and read it.

The Stars are Aligned: 2026 is the Year of Linux on the Desktop We’ve been joking about “the year of Linux on the desktop” for three decades now, but it really does feel like the stars are aligned for 2026 to be that year. For it to finally grab a non-niche market...

One of the best things about being a homeowner is that you get to fix all kinds of random shit.

It's really interesting to understand the engineering behind common things you may have otherwise never thought about. Fixing real, physical things makes our monkey brains feel good.

Enough is enough. After work today I am cancelling all except one streaming service in this house and we are just going to rotate that one service around.

I just did the math on what we're paying for all of these things and IT'S ABSOLUTELY FUCKING BANANAS.

Y'all the Final Fantasy Tactics remake is awesome. The voice actors BROUGHT IT for this game. It's like a stage play.

My four-year-old found a sprouting acorn and planted it so he can grow an oak tree.

I guess it's not totally fair to blame the WASM folks. This really is going to take Google/Apple/Microsoft/Mozilla to agree to standardize on a low level DOM API that is abstracted away from javascript.

> WASM 3.0 is out

Congrats. Now can someone PLEASE bring some sanity to the WASM project and start pushing for direct manipulation of the DOM API? I would LOVE to be able to update the DOM in a language that isn't Javascript.

Would love one in Madison (or elsewhere in southern Wisconsin). Last year's Madison+ Ruby was so much fun! Chicago is close but the timing this year just didn't work. Chicago is a good choice though - great city!

Just listened to @jremsikjr.bsky.social on the Remote Ruby podcast with @excid3.com - XO Ruby sounds like it's going to be an incredible time. Small conferences are the best! I hope everyone that made it to Chicago loved it.

Starting to recover from my Rails World FOMO and now I've got XO Ruby FOMO

Me: tries to use the cup holder in the stroller.
Also me: immediately spills hot coffee everywhere.

Every damn time.

Parenting protip: keep a small towel in your stroller for wiping down wet slides or swings at the park.

Signed: the guy that just used his shirt to dry off several slides only for his daughter to not go down any of them.

Why I Love Obsidian: Hackability I use Obsidian as my primary note-taking tool. There’s so much I love about it: It’s fast. It’s local-first. It’s run by a small team with a focus on being a sustainable business. It’s got lots of plu...

I needed to bulk update some properties. It's not a native feature that Obsidian has. I didn't even need to look for a plugin to do it - I just used good 'ol sed. Thirty seconds and I'm on my way.

The best feature of @obsidian.md is the inherent hackability. You can do whatever you want with your notes because *everything* is literally just a plain text file on your computer. Write tiny scripts to automate stuff. Pipe the contents to other programs. Solve your own problems.

Nothing worse than finding a podcast you love. Learning all kinds of new things. Thinking the hosts are the best. Until suddenly they start confidently talking about a subject you're an expert in and you realize you've been listening to a group of idiots.

GitHub Pages not adopting Jekyll 4+ was a huge blow to the Jekyll ecosystem 🙁

I'm glad they are starting to recommend people use GitHub Actions for building Jekyll sites instead of using the legacy GitHub Pages build system.

You should read more fiction.

Bases in @obsidian.md are sooo good. Time to rip out all of my old dataview queries and random tables and convert.

Just need obsidian publish support for bases and then we're really cooking with gas.

The /now Garden See what’s growing in the /now Garden

👋 Hello fellow now.garden -er! I'm definitely a bit heavy into SF/Fantasy right now but I trying my best to keep some variety.

My #1 bookish predicament is that when I see a big book I decide I MUST read it. The bigger the door stopper the better.
