Proud of Virginia Democrats for deciding it’s time to fight back and stop pretending that there’s something noble about losing

Any VA Democrat who votes no today is putting their own feelings of moral superiority ahead of protecting democracy and is being insanely selfish.

Incredibly, I believe that is our EIGHTH nil nil draw in all comps this season #cpfc

Graph of news head about government economic policies, favorable - unfavorable, showing a big drop in 2025.

Now this is interesting! Seems to sort of support a vibecession argument. Seemingly people used to only hear neutral news about government econ policies, or favorable and unfavorable news balanced each other out? Seems weird. @besttrousers.bsky.social

I wonder if it's sort of like, it's a terrible time for ~20% of the population because of un(der)employment but low rates means it's a decent time for people with jobs so that sort of wins out? I'm not sure

I deleted the main post, but I do still think this is interesting! People really think it's a bad time to buy a house or a car

Surveys of Consumers - Demographic Subgroups

Btw this all comes from the Survey of Consumer Sentiment. They have a ton of neat data data.sca.isr.umich.edu/subset/subse...

Now I don't think any of this disproves the vibecession theory. People could think it's a bad time to buy a home because of the news they consumer. But I do think there's probably more to the negative sentiment about the economy it than just viral reddit posts about the cost of burritos

Lastly, I also graphed consumer sentiment with whether people think it's a good time or bad time to buy a car or vehicle. Look at that plummet from mid 2021, especially for homes.

Second, I graphed consumer sentiment with unemployment expectations. Since the end of 2023, people seem to be expecting unemployment to go up. Concern about AI is the first thing that comes to my mind.

I like Pritzker but it makes me laugh when Democrats criticize Trump for lack of focus. Sorry no!! We don’t want him to be able to focus! Lack of focus might be the only reason we’re all still here

Per SHED, in 2024 29% of adults said they were worse off than 12 months ago. In 2019 it was 14%. That’s a big deal! I don’t think it’s fair to dismiss that

Social media explanation of the vibecession makes no sense to me. Only ~12% of US adults report getting their news from Twitter per Pew. Not sure bad posts from Justin Wolfers are driving economic sentiment in a nation of 340 million people.

Oh yeah you drink blue wine to stay sharp and then orange wine to go hard. Or something like that.

Don't taco Tuesday this shit. Millions of people spent the day wondering if they would get vaporized, and no one in our government stood up to him. Nothing cutesy about it.

Perhaps there's somewhere on this survey where parents can suggest paying the child care workforce a dignified wage and benefits, since that seems to not be part of the plan right now.

I’ve never understood the idea of goading him with TACO! Not that he cares what idiots on Bluesky think, but why would you want him to follow through on anything he says?!

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

The R2 is 10 inches wider, 4 inches taller, 3 inches longer and 700lb heavier than the Ioniq 5. Not to mention the higher and vertical front end that is much more dangerous than the Ioniq’s lower, sloped front end.

It would be nice if the prospective democratic candidates for 2028 put out a joint statement that they’ll be prosecuting war crimes.

I wish they made more EVs that weren’t pedestrian murdering machines. More people buying pickup trucks does not seem like a silver lining
