on that end though... what you CAN do is openly praise, analyse, gush about, etc. your favourite composers and musicians' works, because not only will they appreciate it, but you'll be surprised at how often that can even lead to a new connection ^^

you'll be surprised at how many of even the most prolific composers are actively keeping tabs on the scene and the general social media space - and just how many of them are outright searching themselves up on SNS and spending hours and hours just egosurfing lol
apropos of nothing, but if you're looking to be a composer or a musician with any sort of reputation, it's probably not a good idea to so openly mock or harshly criticize or in any way belittle another composer's work or skillset no matter how large or corporate the project is
Diorama Break, the game I've been doing music AND sounds for, now has a demo out on steam!
so much work went into delivering just a small part of this project, please check it out. there'll be a kickstarter to help us fund the rest of the game later this month too.

soundtrack cover art/jacket to Secrets of the Silent Witch Original Soundtrack
actually... special shoutout to Secrets of the Silent Witch, which had a soundtrack composed by Cygames' music team and Rina Tayama (despite not being a Cygames production!).
i never saw this anime but the music that I have heard was exceptional.
personal vote for best score in 2025 would be Medalist, with an honorable mention going to Umamusume: Cinderella Gray.
of the selections here I can only really be comfortable voting for Gachiakuta, stellar work from Taku Iwasaki, everything else is just more of the same from previous seasons...
Winning selections + nominations for last year's Crunchyroll Awards 2025
i'm not even exaggerating: of the six anime that were nominated in last year's crunchyroll awards, HALF OF THEM are represented in this year's through their follow-up seasons.
no medalist? no cinderella gray? no gquuux? no yaiba? fuck i'll bite: no sakamoto days???
so many anime with incredible musical scores that debuted in 2025 and they pick the ones that are more or less just... more of the ones you were able to vote for last year? are we joking???
nominee line-up for Best Score in the 2026 crunchyroll awards
saying nothing toward the quality of the selections nor any praise towards crunchyroll or its awards, but damn these are really the picks for best score this year?
in a year with some pretty fucking diverse music, 5/6 are ongoing series with two of them sharing the same composer?

being completely honest, so many people (including a lot of YOU guys) have very deeprooted sinophobia from years of western american propaganda campaigns and i think series’ like this are exceptionally important for helping unlearn all of that.
It’s made me feel a lot better about opening up to locals despite the language barrier because i honestly know a lot more chinese than these guys having lived there for 3 years, yet their willingness to connect and interact with the locals got them so much further than i ever could
tip2tip china has been such a delightful watch for a lot of reasons, mainly because i think ludwig and co really do a great job at showing just how beautiful china is and how warm and welcoming chinese people are, but also because of how impressive it is that they even managed to pull it off-

My forearms and wrist are really starting to feel sore after 5+ hours of music work on my desk… i feel this isn’t normal but also what can i do to mitigate this? I’m concerned about my health bc i work like this quite literally every day 24/7

i don’t think i will ever be convinced that being cliche in music is a bad thing, i think the beauty of it is that everyone distills those same cliches through their own lens and imparts a bit of themselves in the way they use it, so it never quite sounds the same

"Hiroyuki Sawano and The Music That Rewired My Brain Chemistry"
(3661 words, avg. 15-18 min read)
I wrote a piece on one of my favourite composers, Hiroyuki Sawano, and the five songs that changed my life forever
blog.soundcirclet.net/hiroyuki-saw...
music is crazy i'm genuinely so happy i decided to do this for the rest of my life
sawano's music is deceptively 'simple to understand', but it's one of those things where if you simply made a checklist of the things he does and try and follow it to a tee, you'll be missing so much of the 'soul'... that's something you can only tailor from years and years of experience.
utterly fail in so many core aspects - usually they NAIL the 'sound' and the production but they fail in the composition; they're unable to write music that drives that emotional 'catharsis' simply because they don't understand that only sawano is able to write like he does.
the thing about composers like hiroyuki sawano is that his music is so formulaic and predictable you'd think it'd be easy to make... but quite honestly nobody can really do it like he does. there's so many people on youtube who have attempted to compose music in his style that-
