Yep. It's deflating to watch this happen and have so little agency to do any good.

Remember back in 1933 when the Prime Minister of "Australia" gave a sheep's arse about arts and culture in this country?

Still from Godzilla vs Mothra of Mothra’s two fairy guardians dressed in their fluffy capelets and little mushroom hats with the subtitle “Mothra also gives her regards.”
Thank you Mothra
Delighted to receive my contributor’s copy of this gem from @indicator.bsky.social My essay is in good company with a commentary by @cinemelo.bsky.social and an appreciation of Sam Wood by Neil Sinyard

RIP Jurgen Habermas - one of the five major social theorists of the past 60 years. Much to learn from his work. Many gaps, some errors, but he was so rigorous that he inspired some of the best simultaneously dissenting and generative thought of any postwar academic.

And everyone should see IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT at their local cinema!
Just attended the most terrific talk from Jafar Panahi at Berlinale. A wonderful, eloquent, sharp, insightful, funny human and artist. I'm so lucky to have been there.
I don't know if it's been like this for a while, or if it's a new thing, but you could definitely come to the Berlinale and see only retrospective/classic titles. Which is so good.

Someone on letterboxd liked a review of mine, so i read theirs for the same film. I've screenshotted one of their comments because it's one of the worst opinions you can have and i need to share my rage. Why even watch movies?!
I'm in a laundromat in Berlin and a young British lad is on the phone, presumably to a parent, asking if he can put his blacks in with his navies and whites because the internet confused him. Bless.

I did actually watch this last night in my hostel room and it's fantastic! Can recommend for any and all interested in film/history/politics/America. Never a bad time listening to Henry Fonda talk for three hours.
Happy to inspire 🙏
