How do we support struggling readers in grades 4 and up?
This article reviews over 23 meta-analyses on the topic, provides a step by step guide to intervention, and new free resources, including a phonics app that can create up to 400 pages of workbooks.

I’ve added a list of books to Teaching by Science that have helped me to improve my knowledge of evidence based teaching. I am sure that they are many other amazing books out there, but I didn’t want to endorse anything I hadn’t personally read.

I’ll be making a lot of additions to this over the next month. If you see something you feel is missing, please let me know.
I posted the wrong link to this earlier.
Here is the link to my recent interview on Math instruction.

I'm very proud to share a new, first-of-its-kind analysis and data tool from my team at @educationwork.newamerica.org.
Redrawing the Lines is a first-ever look at how, if states draw school district borders with equity as the goal, they can HUGELY reduce funding inequality and segregation. #edusky
I just dropped these 5 free early-phonics workbooks. They cover basic consonant sounds and soft vowel sounds. They also include 25 decodable texts.

And how does that prove whole language works?
Her wrong interpretation of NAEP scores as a journalist, does not disprove the research done for decades showing Whole Language does not work.
That’s incredibly kind of you to say! I’m not sure I meet that standard though. But I’m honoured that you think so highly of me.
I have been a public opponent to charter schools and private schools for almost a decade.
I am not paid by the Waltons.
So you admit that there is a mountain of research against you. But you slander my paper without reading it. What an open minded and nuanced position.
Straw man. You have no nuance that you have suggested.
You cited a blog and a newspaper article. The England study is not an RCT or a meta. It’s correlational, not causative data. Scientific studies have consistently shown the same thing for decades. (NRP, 2000); (Camilli, 2003); (Steubings, 2008); (Torgerson; 2019). All found SP outperformed WL.
I’m a libertarian socialist. Next straw man please.
Great. Where’s your academic citation.
The reading wars debate is not over whether we have a reading crisis, it’s on WL or SP. If you say there is no science of reading, the logical conclusion is that you believe WL is superior to SP.
I'm hiring a postdoc to assist with creating a longitudinal dataset of state charter school funding laws. More info in the position description. Please share!
I just dropped 6 free morphology workbooks on Teaching by Science.

Check them out and let me know what you think! I will be doing updates, so your feedback will help me improve them over time!
Please show me your peer reviewed citation to suggest Whole Language is better than Systematic Phonics.
And a blog post.
Ah great yes. A newspaper article. Please show me your peer reviewed study suggesting that Whole Language is better.
Science is a hoax? Are you suggesting that the decades of reading research suggesting systematic phonics is superior to whole language was all faked? You must have some really impressive citations to back this up?
Explicit instruction is essential in reading AND math! youtube.com/shorts/d-meB...
I’ll be going!
I am very excited to be doing this presentation.
