If you want to make your experience of disability a “teachable moment” every time, I’m happy for you; go, do it, enjoy. But, do not put that expectation or requirement on another person with disabilities. Disabled people with lower support needs need to listen to those with higher support needs.

LOL, trying to stay offline and do my work, and friends are sending me

"LOOK AT THIS NEW PIC!" texts ....

This one is worth it.

First PoC and first woman to go around another world. Don't stop talking about this point. It's important.

we all have a lot of work to do to see disabled people as human beings. how do I know this? the amount of times I have been asked, "can you have sex?" or been told, "you've inspired me to change my life".

disabled people have intimacy... AND are flawed, hard, annoying, not just inspiring.

Update: My benefits case worker ‘accidentally’ added an extra $1,000.00 to my file last month, totaling $3,000.00 when I only made 2,000.00... most of which has gone to pay for things like eating and rent. He “doesn’t know how that happened”, and I had to ‘prove’ I didn’t report it.

Non-disabled people should never have been put in charge of benefit systems.

*laughs in legislated poverty*

I got to sign copies of my book at @comeasyouareco.bsky.social with @nillinlore.bsky.social and @andreazanin.bsky.social

So cool.

If you're in Toronto, they have a few signed copies.

The concerning thing is that he thinks this makes sense and is a good point.

I am a freelancer. Last month I made an extra $1,000 doing the work I do. I reported this to my benefits caseworker.

He advised last week that while my benefit amount for next month would be lower than usual, as expected, I’d still get the benefit. Last night, I see that my file has been put on hold because I made “too much”.

Conveniently, I can’t get hold of my worker today. The limbo disabled people on benefits have to go through trying to work is exhausting and dehumanizing.

"Andrew disability isn't your whole personality though."

[gestures wildly at my power wheelchair, my spastic hands, my inability to independently do much of anything for myself]

me: "oh, it sure fucking is".

It's okay to make your disability your whole personality. Promise.

My therapist asked me last week, “What are the key things that I wanted to focus on in therapy?” and it was so refreshing to say, “Right now, I just like having a place to say things.” In the first two weeks, I have already felt less anxious.

Severely disabled people deserve access to spaces too... and so much of accessibility doesn't account for their access needs at all.

there’s always going to be other disabled people who don’t fully support the way some disabled people exist. Exist anyway.

Guess who just heard about recording the audiobook version of Notes From A Queer Cripple. My publisher is checking into it, but hopefully I can record it from my home studio. Exciting stuff.

I saw another disabled influencer post that “disabled people don’t need saving”. While that’s a very nice thing to suggest, I just want to point out that many of us really do need saving, and it’s okay to say that too.

It's Trans Day of Visibility today. If you're trans and are raising money for something (I don't care what it is), reply to this thread and I will boost you.

If you are a cis person, take a look and find someone to support if you can.

Everyone give this a share after.

On this Trans Day of Visibility, I want all trans people to be seen, but specifically, I want to shout out disabled trans folk because they deserve a shout out too.

I just had my first therapy session in years. As a queer disabled person I have been reluctant to go to therapy, but...

oh, wow, did it feel good to say some of the stuff I needed to.

With the HP trailer dropping tomorrow, here's the whole deal:

If you watch the show, hell even just the trailer, I will think less of you. I will dislike you. I will think you don't care about trans people.

That's it. It's been years. There's no wiggle room. No qualifiers. You care or you don't.
