Walk into many Ontario university classrooms today and you’ll see a system under strain: overcrowded classes, overstretched instructors, and growing instability.

More and more teaching is being done on short-term contracts.

This is the gigification of teaching. 🧵 #Fairness4CF

Today is OCUFA's Day of Action in support of #fairness4CF.

#ONPSE is increasingly being run on gig-style academic work, a result of years of provincial underfunding. The system is under strain, and students and faculty feel the impact.

Following the recent Member ratification vote, WLUFA’s Contract Faculty Members at Laurier are set to make some gains, but there is still more work to do to address precarity and advance fairness for Contract Faculty across the sector. tinyurl.com/cfsmdoa @ocufa.bsky.social #Fairness4CF

Why Canada needs better data on strikes, unions and other labour issues Canada does a poor job of gathering labour relations information. In a period of rising inequality and renewed workplace conflict, stakeholders need better data.

At a time when official statistics are under political pressure elsewhere, Canada has an opportunity & a responsibility to strengthen its own commitment to open, reliable labour relations data. Adam King & I explain why:

Not all calls for public funding are good - CAUT Program cuts, layoffs and campus closures are making headlines across the country.

"Never wanting to let a good crisis go to waste, myriad actors have come out of the woodwork to propose their grand solutions to this current moment. While public funding may be the headline, the fine print is worth investigating."

Opinion: If the UCP can take away teachers' rights, no one is safe But Bill 2 does far more than end a strike. It turns fifty-thousand Albertan teachers into second-class citizens.

"It is difficult to think of a group more representative of our province’s values and aspirations than AB’s teachers. They are found, quite literally, in every town & city in our province...if the UCP can take rights away from 50,000 of them, then nobody’s safe." edmontonjournal.com/opinion/colu...
