One angry Republican writes:

"Fairfax County, VA, has a total area of approximately 406-407 square miles, with a land area of about 391 square miles. In contrast, Virginia has a land area of roughly 39,490 square miles. Therefore, Fairfax Co. covers just over 1% of Virginia's total land area, despite holding over 1M people.

Census Data (.gov)

Under what circumstances can it be considered fair for 1% of the land area of an entire state to override the will of the other 99% of occupied territory?"

The voice of reason replies:

"The preamble to the constitutions starts

'We the people'not

'We the acres'.

Pretty much the rest of it continues to define the rights of people. It never really gets into rights for acres or square miles."

Most explicit version of the GOP's complaint I've seen yet.

Acres don't vote, folks, people do.

For the record, Fairfax is just over 13% of the state's population. The only county in the top 10 population-wise that voted No was Newport News.

And sadly, that last clause is what will kill it.

It's like a word jello salad.

Virginia redistricting amendment has passed.

Alas, that's not how this works, especially ina criminal prosecution.

Boom, as mentioned, basically side-steps by proposing to cruise at high subsonic speeds until they are over water, then hammer down.

Which basically makes it a service for the "coastal elites." Might be some viable routes out of Texas as well.

They still have to build a supersonic engine, from scratch, because none of the majors were interested.

Not former employees. Fed benefits expired after a month.

Lots of former government employees who would love the work.

Heck, they hadn't even met each other (in person) before this past weekend...

It always made me a little tense.

They're a little slow on the uptake, aren't they?

If you think the sugar in tea discourse is bad, the milk in tea discourse is even worse.

I drink very nice tea, but it's better with milk.

Gotta love the left-wing conspiracy theorists. Just as nutty as the right-wing ones, only with slightly different priors.

And the idea that the French ever got a US-built Constitution-style 44, especially as a privateer. That's akin to a modern PMC buying an AEGIS destroyer.

But by God it makes a great movie.

It used to be how the USCG stopped drug running boats, but those are small enough that they did it with a .50-caliber rifle from a helicopter (See HITRON).

Of course, this is the administration that stopped doing that in favor of just blowing up the boats and sinking any evidence.

I've literally lost track of the number of Iranian vessels carrying weapons to Yemen that the USN has stopped and boarded over the last decade.

Did they sue over the play _The Book of Mormon_? Or the reality TV series _The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives_?

If not, Utah has a pretty robust anti- SLAPP law, doesn't it?

Yes, that's it exactly. Just like the real Gilded Age (minus the Television, of course).

Ah, I see. The US copyright runs to 2044, apparently. It's public domain in the UK, but that's not enough of a market, sadly.

I'm a copyright novice, but how does a film extend the copyright on the original written work?

I kept noticing how they were comfortable skipping over filler scenes that many movies would have included. They go straight from Maturin et al rushing across the Galapagos to Surprise beating to quarters. No need to show Maturin telling Aubrey what he's seen, etc.

Good question. I think they are not meant for all-day wear yet.

Does Congress not get these poll numbers? At this point, I'd think a lot of GOP reps would be looking to get some daylight between themselves and Trump, but there is zero sign of it.

There are already some robotic exoskeletons that can provide walk assistance (like Hypershell). I hope they can be improved in balance and endurance.

I live in a split-level house (many steps) and am hoping I can get a working exoskeleton before I become wheel-chair dependent.

I think the big achievement here isn't the speed, it's the endurance. Getting 13 miles at high speed out of a battery-powered bipedal robot is pretty impressive.

What's its function here? The Rao's is already a bit sweet and so are the a caramelized onions. I'd just toss in a splash of vodka and simmer a bit if you want the alcohol to liberate the flavors in the tomatoes.

An alternative read: the time to push for the best possible candidate is in the primary. In the general, a vote for the lesser of two evils is better than not voting, which is effectively a half-vote for the worse evil.

Left to right, top to bottom:

Cardinal, Dominican
Franciscan, Pope

The Outer Limits did episodes called "I, Robot" in 1964 and 1995, but both are based on the Eando Binder short story, not Asimov.
