Huh the guy who runs the powerful computer chip company is pushing a technology that would incentivize people to buy more powerful computer chips? How odd!
RPS asked me to write about DLSS5, the "neural rendering" tech that Nvidia have been crowing about, that uses generative AI techniques to replace rendered graphics. I wrote about framerates, fakery, and how you seize control of an industry.
We simply must teach the youth nuance
I’ve found myself having a number of conversations with 20somethings where they bemoan that someone hasn’t simplified down their field to instructions on “the right thing to do” in every situation.
An interesting parallel I’m finding between “Agentic” proponents and 2000s search-based PCG folks is a reverence for the idea that if we can simply specify precisely what we want we can do anything.
A “Neural Computer” is built by adapting video generation architectures to train a World Model of an actual computer that can directly simulate a computer interface.

Cool work led by Mingchen Zhuge et al. from Schmidhuber’s lab!
"To put it bluntly, an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago."
If you think it is necessary to be on Twitter to communicate your fact-based worldview, the reality is that worldview is being smothered.
you wont believe what they used to check the accuracy
Would you realize if the book you were reading was AI? What if it was humanized to remove AI-speak?
We find that even without using stylistic cues (e.g., word choice or sentence structure) narrative choices alone give AI fiction away!
This year’s AIIDE is hosted by the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil! Nestled in the Pampulha district’s cultural corridor, the campus’ location makes getting to nearby cultural landmarks a breeze.
this is honestly THE best write up of how CSAM detection and perceptual handing works. the visual aids are very helpful in understanding how content is transformed and how detection methods work

Great quote in the comments "But it also reinforces my suspicion that that the only thing that Americans do really well is story-telling. Almost every American product turns out to be over-hyped crap."
“I am on that darth icky kush. They call my girl the millennium falcon the way I finish in four parsecs. I’m smoking that Dagobah dank swamp pack. I killed some younglings before Vader could even get to them, just to feel something. I’m a womp rat. This shit is nothing to Hondo, man.”
15 cover mock-ups
Those of you who have been following me for a long while might remember a cool game jam I hosted 4-5 years ago where I designed a bunch of evocative cover mock-ups for people to make ttrpgs or larps based off! Well, it's back! #ttrpg #mockcoverjam itch.io/jam/mock-cov...
A screenshot of our upcoming city-building game Amberspire (without UI), showing a growing settlement with a large Starport at the centre.
A screenshot of our upcoming city-building game Amberspire, this time with UI. Five resource dice have been rolled and are currently being distributed into a number of buildings: the Cistern, Ruster, Habitat, Bazaar, and Landing Pad.
A screenshot of our upcoming city-building game Amberspire, with resource dice again being allotted different buildings. This time, a Lighthouse is in the process of being built.
A screenshot from our upcoming game Amberspire. One of the factions, Void Lineages, has arrived in the city. To the right is a portrait of one of their members. To the left, a description: "The city has drawn the attention of a new off-world faction... Void Lineages The Void Lineages are a rhizomatic family of pilots, traders, smugglers, and shipbuilders. A familial structure organized under hierarchs maintains strict controls over its members, but this structure is frequently threatened by desires within and forces external. Ultimately the lineages remain reactive to an ever-shifting political landscape. The Void Lineages favor increases the maximum dice pool limit to eight, and the penalty reduces it to four.
Amberspire is out May 6th!

Time Passes V0.1 is now live!
Time Passes is a TTRPG about fantasy Heroes dealing with a Nightmare so overwhelming that it will take generations to defeat. This is a game of grief at the absence of comrades and the need to move forward in spite of it.

I dunno I think neoliberalism’s grand plan of dismantling the welfare state and the social contract and replacing them, respectively, with nothing and nothing created a pretty fertile breeding ground for fascism and this isn’t even particularly controversial anymore.
I recognize the one on the left but not sure how noteworthy the one on the right is? Looks like a conjuror of cheap tricks to me.
This should be Mike's new faculty headshot probably
I’ve been yelling about this (professionally) for years and it’s really nice to see venues like the Atlantic joining in.
