In May (14th) I'll be doing an event with Flatpack Film Festival - a screening and discussion on The Fall of Douglas Weatherford, focusing on male mental health in film - come along! flatpackfestival.org.uk/event/the-fa...
Watching the new/final season of The Boys and it feels painfully on the nose 😬
Had a great time at @baftss.bsky.social 2026 - so many interesting papers, the beach, and just generally very good vibes. Well done to everyone involved!
All good things must come to an end - thank you to all who have made #BAFTSS2026 at the Marriott Bournemouth very special.
Profound thanks to our outgoing Chair, Gábor Gergely, for his robust stewardship of the association over the last few years 👏

The final day of BAFTSS 2026! Currently in the Sci-Fi panel (great papers), will be speaking on Russian Doll after lunch and then hosting our second Adaptation SIG panel.
Next up is Cicero Olivera talking about Jouvet and his performance of masculinity.
Kicking off the men and masculinities panel is Callum Ratcliffe talking about performative masculinity #baftss2026
Arrived early this morning to a misty Bournemouth for the #baftss2026 conference - lots of great panels ahead, and excited to see everyone!
While registration for AAS 2026 at Burman U 🇨🇦 remains ongoing, applications & expressions of interest to host AAS 2027 are now open! Reach out to us here or our Board chairs @cbkenkar.bsky.social & @stinaface.bsky.social to learn more.
Starting now!
Voting in Lit Hub's Best Adaptation bracket was easy peasy until the very last choice: Arrival vs. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Brutal choice!

A non-academic related thing - last month I published a collection of short stories. They're a mix of speculative and contemporary fiction, and if you know anyone who is interested, send them here: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0GTSG9B6...

It completely got me. 😭
Was not expecting to see a Méliès today in Malaga, but happy I did.
Garth Marenghi! (I love Dark Place)
Ah it’s a shame I’m not around! Would suggest the Brammall music building as that’s got an exhibition upstairs. I would have also said the Cadbury Research Library but as external you have to book that!
Would suggest looking at some other places round campus too whilst you’re there. When are you going?
Just shared news of our next MHHRN event: Teaching Mental Health Humanities with @harbottlestores.bsky.social and Grace Lucas. Weds 29th April, 3-4.30pm, online. Get in touch if you're not on the mailing list and want the link!
Ryan Gosling sure is watchable.
Lander 23 run by Punchdrunk!
I did an immersive video game experience thing in London today and I loved it but also spent some time thinking ‘I wonder if I could write about this’ 🙃
One thing I did with a couple of mine is do a giveaway type competition online - mainly because it’s good for getting the word out and then usually someone who might not have access to it receives a free copy.
I realised that 'liking' this feels strange, but support and empathy on this.
Weirdly, my lecture today in my 'Identity and Cultural Narratives' module was on technology and how it's shaped our sense of self - think I'll have to use this for future discussions.
I actually have really enjoyed it, and was surprised about the tonal similarities to early Scrubs!
Forgot to post this last week but a new episode of our Queer Film Podcast is out, where we talk about The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson: open.spotify.com/episode/7vJl...
I’ve just started watching Vladimir and I have two words: RACHEL WEISZ
