"Let’s call it what it is: Premier Ford is making pure poppyshow (slang for make a fool) of Ontario. We may not have a Trump, but we have someone who uses the same tactics, bombarding us with one foolish idea after another to hide the real truth of what he’s doing." www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

Vibrant street art in Limerick, Ireland. A standard street bollard is painted as a bright blue octopus head, with its tentacles sprawled playfully across the pavement for a local scavenger hunt.

The "gravy plane". The late Rob Ford would love it. And we now know why Ford wants to bring jets to the downtown airport.

Imagine if instead of spending billions of dollars supporting terrorists or weapons, the United States had spent that money helping the people of the United States
During 1970s Oil Embargo, automakers said they'd build smaller cars. We were going to walk, cycle + take transit. A half century later, we're in same predicament
Public $ should go to renewables, transit +cycling --not subsidizing gaso + filling pockets of oil comps

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵

A pickup truck that is parked along the curb dwarfs smaller vehicles behind it. (The driver pays the same for a parking spot.)
"it’s hard to find a good reason why cities shouldn’t charge a higher price — that is to say, a fair price — for the road space rented as parking for pickups" - @albertkoehl.bsky.social #onpoli #biketo

Yesterday, Toronto Today published an op-ed from @albertkoehl.bsky.social making the case for charging more to park large pickups than for smaller sedans. Something already being done in at least one Montréal borough. #TOpoli #ONpoli #cdnpoli #VisionZero www.torontotoday.ca/local/opinio...

"Since Canadian energy policy grants petroleum companies the power to charge world prices for oil produced and consumed right here, that gap will generate a Cdn oil patch windfall estimated as high as $100 billion this year alone." @jimstanford.bsky.social

Our inherited measures have political origins we have either misremembered or forgotten. We select and interpret data about public spaces by standards devised for us by influential people with private interests to advance. ...
One week to go before our 72km RIDE THE LOOP, Close the Gaps event!
As other cities build loop trails, it's time for Toronto to close the gaps + complete a closed circuit of trails for utilitarian, recreational, and tourism cycling. #biketo

Stable Genius Crisis Manager.
Congress is completely useless at this point.
Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez:
“The Government of Spain will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they show up with a bucket.”

The gas crisis makes me really glad I live in NYC and not anywhere else in car dependent America. Hopefully everyone can learn from our example
For sidewalk winter maintenance especially after major snow events, definitely. And let's make sure it also applies to bike lanes to compensate folks like @bikewaysto.bsky.social volunteers for their efforts. 🫡❄️
