I temp VO-ed a documentary I edited and the producers asked if they could keep my voice for the final thing. Both such an ego stroke and also the most ridiculous thing!

Celeste Roberge’s sculpture “The Weight of Grief” #art
It’d be my pleasure!
I’m rewatching the TV series of Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and I can’t believe it’s already almost 4 years old. It feels like it should be 2 at the absolute max. Goddamn it is still so good. I hope we get more of that world.

Generally I don't get to cut trailer-esque things much, but between the Distort 2 trailer, another I'm doing for someone at the mo, and the couple of weeks I did some TV promos before Christmas, it's been such a nice side to dip the toe in to. Such an art in itself and a lot of creative angles.
I hear ya, man. I don't think that's something that'll ever fully go away, but maybe those moments of 'Oh, it's a bit easier to get clothes sorted' or 'I'm able to manage this walk easier' can be the things to remind you of what you've accomplished. And by the way, congrats! What an accomplishment!
Shit just got serious; the standing desk is UP.
Hoping I can get this edit wrapped up for the evening soon so I can zone out with a film. There's never something I don't wanna watch, but I think this evening I'm between Diary of the Dead or Dust Devil, or possibly the making of Day of the Dead, because listen, DotD is never not a good call.
Scream 4 was so spot on for all of THIS. It was definitely apparently bubbling under the surface, but I guess at the time crowds weren't buying it yet. It's almost laughable how naive that view is now.
Begging the algorithm to stop showing me posts from folks I don’t follow saying their dog died.
(To be clear, I gently send him on his way. We’d never let him stay in overnight. He definitely views our place as part of his territory and our neighbours are happy enough that he spends time in others houses, but there has to be a line!)
The neighbours cat has proper passed out in ours the last 2 nights in an intense way and it’s just the sweetest thing. Very unexpected given he’s an outdoor cat. I suspect they might be packing since they move soon and he may be picking up on it and anxious. Gonna miss that fluffball so much.
A photo from behind the scenes on filming Revenge of the Sith. Against a bluescreen backdrop, George Lucas snarls and raises his hands to the sky, as Ian McDiarmid in full costume as Palpatine, does similarly in the background.
can't believe we're really getting the taxation of trade routes being in dispute *and* a blockade of deadly battleships
A drawing of a realistic dog wearing a tie saying; "I need to lock in and prove that I am capable. I need to be taken seriously." While a drawing of a cartoon dog says; "I need to stay silly and whimsical lest I lose the very essence of myself." Perpetrating an endless cycle
Endless cycle
Every dumb horror trope has been proven to not only be spot on, but also generous. I mean, 2020 showed how zombie films were basically documentaries of people who’d hide being bitten.
I like how wikipedia uses the infobox for cars here
Really great read. A sidenote is there was a bootleg of Traces of Death (FoD knockoff series) for sale in a little family shop in Lithuania, right beside bootlegs of kids films. I always regret not picking it up, just for the sheer novelty of a bootleg of such a film in a Lithuanian cornershop.

FBI agent Denise played by David Duchovny and Dale Cooper, played by Kyle Maclachlan, Twin Peaks 1990
David Duchovny played a transgender woman, Denise, on Twin Peaks in 1990 and when greeting Cooper, the show's protagonist, she says, "I prefer Denise, if you don't mind" and Cooper responds with "OK" and her identity is settled within a couple seconds and was a non-issue, 36 years ago.
Gorgeous long haired grey cat asleep on a notebook on a computer desk
This lil guy is continuing his worldwide butt tour by showing off his rear to folks in the US when I’m on video calls. We don’t even have a cat!!!?!
There’s a guy talking about the digital effects in that doc and he goes to impress us with the insane amount of space all the effects shots take; almost 1.6tb! Man, times do change!

Speaking of Threads, this one got me in the feels.
It’s never not going to get my back up that so many streaming apps glitch and crash a lot, but it’s always AFTER the ads play perfectly, and need to be replayed after you reload to retry watching the video. Then you repeat ad nauseum…
The Behind The Scenes Feature on THE FRIGHTENERS is a pre-cursor to the game-changing BTS on Lord of the Rings.
It's 3hrs long and there's a lot less editorialising; so, often, you're just watching Peter Jackson direct a movie.
Highly recommend.
That’s what I’d stuck on that got me sharing the Frighteners love! Such a brilliant insight into things. I’ve revisited it loads over the years!
In half an hour, the trailer for DISTORT 2: THE DEAD AMONG THE TREES will drop heeeeere: youtu.be/1qVY8Mhd-24

I feel like I'm always chasing the opposite of new and fancy gear/sounds. I read the other day that Tom Waits insisted on Mule Variations being recorded outside with cars driving by. I love that kind of texture to things!
Even the most basic recording methods these days are far better quality than lofi recordings of the likes of Lou Barlow in the 80s. The way I'm recreating that vibe? An unplugged electric guitar recorded directly via voice memo in a room with wooden floors.
