Well to that, I'd say that first, the gacha game landscape is a lot different now. Genshin didn't have any competition to worry about back then. Second, finishing the Liyue story was a big deal. The Endfield patch by comparison hasn't really advanced the plot at all, which is-

Unless they're holding out more content for the second half of the update I don't think this is enough to keep people's attention.

I play a lot of gacha games and this is well below the norm imo. Hoyo typically drops 1 big story quest and 1 major event with 2-3 other small events per patch, the first patch for Endfield has just one story quest and thus far one really simple event.
