Somehow, I finally made it.

I haven't even left the hotel where I had to spend the night due to canceled flights, and already my flight is delayed two hours. Nothing like trying to travel for a family emergency and getting nowhere fast.

It was especially great when all the Delta agents disappeared upon cancellations. Great customer service.

Thinking of everyone in the Midwest today. Hope you are all staying safe there.

We saw the storm chasers were out and immediately knew what that meant.

Trying to decide between bow making and linen damask. First I think I need a local village maker where I can apprentice, though!

Hope you had a great time and found some little guys! The slippery rocks hurt, but also worth it for the amazing critters.

Low tide on a rocky coast is one of my favorite experiences ever. Well worth the time spent examining the tide charts!

People complain about pets doing promotion for their books on here, but I just want to say: Pets, post your books! People want to read and buy them!

Star Trek The Search for Spock scene. Our Lord Spock is pictured in a white robe. He stands surrounded by his shipmates who are all older here than they were in the TV show. Sulu is smiling and touching Spock's chest for some reason. Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, and Bones stand close and all seem thrilled to see him, but are otherwise practicing self control and not feeling his chest.

Despite being surrounded by friends, Spock is staring only at Kirk, for obvious reasons.

Isaac Chotiner: You say the two cats who live in your house are "Jerks" and you don't care for them
Me: Absolutely. They are the burdens of my life
Chotiner: It seems you spent an hour searching for special food for them and paid more for it than you do even for your own food.
Me: That's--Hold on,

2/ We see public and private schools in blue states all pivoting to the same "return on investment" discourse pushed heavily by the Obama Admin (through the dept of ed, but also the white house), in ways that embody the neoliberal consensus around higher education.

Trump says the U.S. cannot afford child care in wartime. History says otherwise. The U.S. government did β€œtake care of day care” once – and used the defense budget to pay the bill.

"Put simply, 'child care or war' is a false choice. The U.S. has the money to pay for child care, even if we are also funding a costly, unpopular and arguably unconstitutional war. That money is just stuck in the wrong hands."

If you work in higher ed you should read this.

Also, I have too many friends and colleagues who formerly worked and taught at SNC. I don't have the energy to get into my own SNC story, so read this instead.

Full-time salaries for most categories of faculty have remained about the same since 2002, adjusting for inflation, while admin pay soars.

Faculty have had enough. We’re fighting back nationwide.
