I loved this piece.

I can see the value in that but also I've got my fingers in other work(s) treating the subject more comprehensively (multi-decade/future) - which is, I think, very needed. I sort of want to pull a bunch of people into a recording/podcast once it's all out...or cartoon. A GIGANTIC hand-drawn cartoon.
The hell is that March spike?
Wall Street is retreating from DEI, as programs once meant for minorities and women are now open to all.
One ex-exec says she’s had white women ask what opportunities their sons will have if Wall Street focuses on promoting underrepresented groups
Same, but there are risks. I'm from NY. I talk really fast (but have learned to slow down to accommodate others). That + caffeine = Bad.
I think the reason will overlap why Twilight was such a big deal. I don't actually have a grand theory though...
Yes to this. Need an emoji for "I acknowledge the validity of your argument, also here's a pie for your face"
Video statement from NSIDC’s Twila Moon at a pre-AGU workshop on polar geoengieering projects. These ideas have been recently publicized in a “Giant Antarctic Ocean Curtain to stop sea level rise” press article.

I wonder if otherwise-healthy people start having allergies to things like technology or social media after too much exposure. Like an evolutionary protection mechanism.
I wonder if this is just me, but I deal with technology in the form of supercomputers on the cloud for work and when I'm not working, I basically want everything to be Stone Age-friendly. It's like going to the mall - I've got a set time (20min) I can deal with shopping and then I just run out.
Totally legitimate. I only get pissed when people (who I do not work in and admin role for. which is zero people.) ask me to "send them a reminder". We all have calendars.
No, this really *IS* a compliment. I think pretty much any actual structural change involves databases, spreadsheets and a lot of people having to read some well-written manual. Bullshit changes tend to come in the form of "rousing speeches". Which are fun, but usually useless.
2023 was the hottest 🌡️ year on Earth 🌎 on record by a lot...like a lot

YES. TO. THIS. (a simple "like" was insufficient)
Ohio has basically defacto banned trans healthcare for adults using a similar strategy to why there was only a handful of abortion clinics in the entire Midwest before the Dobbs decision (TRAP laws)
cis people please repost this so this info doesn't get stuck in the queer social bubble
Actually... I research precipitation on Antarctica and my first reaction to that headline was "F@#$KING PROVE IT"
This is a damn Fact.
So... curious what people think about Hurrell at a WCRP conference calling for the *IPCC* to conduct a study on solar geoengineering? I see it as pretty obvious that we need more than peer-review to ensure feasibility for any geoengineering. Is there a downside to large orgs (like IPCC) running it?
I don't like this information.
It's just logical. If the glacier gets knocked up and has little glacier babies then there's more ice, less sea level rise and also ponies for everyone. Trust me, I'm an obstetrician. I mean climate scientist.
you think you're being funny, but one of the solutions suggested at the Stanford conference (but *very* speculatively - not even proposing a feasibility study..) involved injecting a viscous substance into a crevasse. Word use intentional.
You're wrong - Toddler beauty pageants are the grossest.

A few years back I coded an algorithm to compute daily surface melt in Antarctica from microwave sat. data. The NSIDC adopted the code but it isn't live yet.
Until then, I created my own "Antarctica Today" app that'll auto-post replies to this thread.

I'm especially clapping bc @natalyagomez.bsky.social devoted a substantial amount of a Very Short acceptance speech to acknowledging the role that structural privilege has played in her own success, recognizing and inspiring actions that change that system.
Completely inappropriate for this conversation, but please try to work this into a talk someday: Your worship makes me want to take a nap.
