Right now, Universal Credit isn’t matched to the cost of living, and this is driving people to the doors of food banks.

Where is hunger hitting hardest?

➡️Cornwall: 36,296 emergency food parcels were provided last year, up 102% since 2019
➡️ Wrexham: 9,496 parcels last year, up 74%
➡️ Perth and Kinross: 8,724 parcels last year, up 48%

Across every corner of the UK, food banks in our community are seeing severe hardship.

But which areas are facing the highest levels of need? Let us explain…

We absolutely can build a future where no one needs a food bank to survive. But it will take long-term solutions, not short-term sticking plasters.

2.6 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided last year - that’s 45% more than in 2019.

72% of people were referred to a food bank because they simply couldn’t cover their living costs.

Hardship isn’t just rising - for many, it’s becoming harder to escape.

Between 2019 and 2025, the number of people needing a food bank more than once rose by a massive 35%.

Cost of living payments and falling inflation have helped some people get back on their feet, but too many people are being left behind and trapped in severe hardship.

Inflation is easing, but hardship isn’t. This isn’t right - and it doesn’t have to be this way.

£73.20 a week. That’s supposed to cover food, bills, travel… and surviving as a young adult. Impossible? Exactly.

Today’s announcement highlights important progress for families – but this cannot be the end.

The government MUST make more plans to tackle hunger and hardship in the UK. 💚

We also need action to strengthen our social security system.

Right now, Universal Credit isn’t matched to the cost of living, and this is driving people to food banks.

We’re calling for an independent process that sets rates based on how much things actually cost.

🙏 What do we want to see?

We’re calling on the government to lift the freeze on Local Housing Allowance – and make sure that housing support reflects actual rental costs.

Without this, the government risks driving more people into hardship and homelessness.

❌ But we need to see more action on hunger in the upcoming Autumn Budget.

Food bank need is well above levels compared to 5 years ago.

Every day, our food banks speak to people who are going without essentials, like food and heating.

✅ The Chancellor recently announced to remove the cruel two-child limit.

This is huge.

It will pull 470,000 children out of severe hardship by 2027 and ease pressure on food banks.
