Controlling a device with my 6502 Homebrew Computer - IoT like it's 1985! YouTube video by 6502Nerd

Can my homebrew computer on breadboard control a real-world device? Yes it can!😎

This is 1980s style computing with some basic transistor interfacing to allow a pin on the homebrew's AY-3-8910 chip to control a fan!πŸ€“

Back to the future - Blinkenlights (again) on my homebrew computer! YouTube video by 6502Nerd

Blinkenlights are back - computers seem more 'alive' when they're flickering lights at you, and if you know what to look for it can even give an idea of what the machine is doing!

Tweaked the game a bit - improved the backdrop graphics with a proper Death Star that come up over the horizon! This will go up on GitHub soon.
I think it looks a lot better and quicker to draw than the method of drawing circles to make a Death Star!

Made some cosmetic tweaks - new backdrop graphics and animation. Proper Death Star vs drawing one using circles!

Oric Atmos C and assembler game - Invaders 3D
Oric Atmos C and assembler game - Invaders 3D YouTube video by 6502Nerd

Port of a game from dflat to native Oric - easier for folks to try using emulator or even real machine.
I've made some improvements too e.g. the game music which is a decent rendition (not by me!) of a legendary electronic track.

Now if it was showing WB1.2 on the label (that's what came with my first A500 in 1988), I'd want to protect your graffiti as much as any Banksy! πŸ€“πŸ€˜πŸ½πŸ€˜πŸ½

Work has been keeping me crazy busy. But had a nice surprise today at an event hosted by the National Edge AI Hub at @newcastleuni.bsky.social

They have a small display of computing history and I was delighted that my dear Oric-1 features!πŸ€“πŸ€—

Here's one example converted from dflat a BASIC like language I developed for my homebrew computer πŸ€“

I remember seeing that at the time and thinking it was a bit unusual Paul Hardcastle's track being in the charts!

Never coded in Ada but I remember thinking it was decent and good for real time programming if I recall correctly?

Does micropython work well in terms of performance?

6 months ago 1 0 1 0

We learnt Pascal for A level at college. It was designed for education so it's decent I think.
But by my second year I was using C on my Amiga A500 and I liked that more!

6 months ago 1 0 0 0

My favorite is C/C++
Pascal is nice too.
For retro kicks 68000 and 6502 assembly language is great.
BASIC is nostalgic but not as interesting as I found it way back when..

Tbf I can see how bad that is compared to the crt tv RF display.. So indeed as I suspected alas I do not have an old school crt tv.. Yet! πŸ€“

Haven't seen an RF display for years. I think I do have an older lcd TV that supports it but I'm sure the even older analogue crt are more sympathetic to weak and wobbly RF? πŸ€”

Protracker 3 song files on Oric with C and OSDK
Protracker 3 song files on Oric with C and OSDK YouTube video by 6502Nerd

A new video showing tools to allow Oric to play Protracker 3 files in the background from C language.
The Oric has a decent sound chip, I think it does a good job here, and now super easy to add high quality tracks to your games!

And relevant to lots of 6502 based machines. The general idea of a game loop, state machine for objects etc. πŸ€“
