@hardcover.app Any idea why this is happening? My progress toward 2026 goal says 0 read, but right under it, it lists all the books I've read this year.

Tech bros constantly fantasize about quitting and living on a farm. They don't hate animals; they're just too stupid to reflect on the inconsistency of their behaviors. They're essentially toddlers.
Shots fired at 21st century programmers XD
This is Dave Plummer reminiscing about how he wrote Windows's Task Manager.
What about a non military solution that replaces the attempt at a US military solution?
One imagines a scenario in which China brokers a diplomatic solution with Iran, leading to a humiliating repudiation of America. Seems like a win for both China and Iran.
I think few people ever love the state so much as think it's a better way of solving certain problems than using other institutions (or the lack thereof).
@elainestorming.bsky.social you seem like a gal who still likes memes even though we are OLD now
I have an ID.Buzz and love it. I don't understand the range complaints. Anyone who can afford a $70,000 car isn't taking 1000 mile road trips; they're flying.
I'm proud of how it turned out, all 400+ pages that we gave away for free. Basically turned into a mook by the end. Currently investigating a print version and learning about small batch indie publishing. 🚀
2025, I ran a fan zine celebrating 10 years of fans remixing a cartoon, featuring fan art, fan fiction, some critical essays, and interviews with famous fandom personalities. It was super rewarding. I suppose this is a step less pure than a zine that isn't derivative of a commercial property tho...
The question of our time is how do you artistically rebel — and win — against a totally flat cultural landscape? And before my readers, who I assume are all approximately 36 years old and very tired, say, “so what, who cares?” This does matter. I mean, just look around right now lol. You know things are bad when even OpenAI President Greg Brockman is posting stuff, like “Taste is a new core skill.” If people had taste, your company wouldn’t exist, Greg. But if everything is just attention now, and attention is completely commodified by algorithmic tech platforms, how can you push back against that? Well, I am slowly coming around to a theory on the new cool: You have to essentially pre-deplatform yourself. Culture right now is determined not by human teams of editors and producers picking and choosing what youth culture gets the spotlight, but, instead, by the unthinking algorithms that power YouTube and TikTok. Which means the only things that have the level of scarcity and danger required to be seen as cool by young people will, slowly, but surely, be whatever is unacceptable on those platforms.
A post so smart I'm almost afraid to share it.

Holy shit, fatality
We have no functional national media in the way many people still think we do, so the more regular folks we can show this stuff to, the better. Make sure your friends, family, co-workers, REALLY see what’s going on. If you still have personal Facebook, blast it with these videos. Make it inescapable
I had a special interest in IHL in law school, spending time in a legal clinic working on War on Terror issues. This is 100% a war crime.
Let's hear it for High Church Christianity.
Overheard at the bookstore, two high school girls: "Ew, is this book just legalized pedophilia? [conversation] I dunno, maybe I'm sensitive to age gaps."
After they left, I went over to see what book they were talking about. Y'all, it was a romance about a 58yo man and a 30yo woman.

Don’t fuck with me, please. I’m tired. I’m from the “is” era of Facebook updates
(Also the DE site doesn't have an obvious way to download, for example, Der Mann ohne Eigenschaften, but the English site has easy access to download its books in multiple file types. Why??)
And this isn't an "only English for Project Gutenberg" thing, as the EN site still returns a German book.
If a local library has multiple languages, they do not separate them like this. If a library system has them in different locations, they will still return all results and help you access the ones at other locations.
Does anyone know why Project Gutenberg (English) and Projekt Gutenberg (German) do not have the same contents?
If you search for Robert Musil, for example, compare the English and German. #booksky #projectgutenberg #projektgutenberg

Nope. It's the other way around: people invented your version afterward as a way to gaslight people. The link I have you even discusses this in is own section, and there are plenty of early photos of protest signs clearly saying my version, not yours. So either you're lying, or someone lied to you!
It's Believe Women, not Believe All Women. It's a subtle but important distinction that should make you happy, as it doesn't suffer from the problem you're complaining about.

Unless you're where I live and it's 80 damn degrees and sunny and holy crap I just want it to be cold and dreary, Christmas isn't supposed to feel like the beach
That's when you tell him happy Kwanzaa back.
