I'm old enough to have faced a bunch of workplace and school and artist in residence sexual harrassment pre-Anita Hill, when no one was ready to respond in any meaningful way and you just coped.

I thought his sole focus was drinking with Olympic athletes in Italy, jetting to his girlfriend's events, going to the Poodle Club in Las Vegas, persecuting Trump's enemies, weakening the FBI, and making unsubstantiated claims that his employees have to walk back?

Cooperation is more powerful than coercion Trump misunderstands power as being synonymous with violence, but we can learn a lesson about real power from a humble source — flowers.

The Trump administration profoundly misunderstands power as being synonymous with violence, writes @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social. But we can learn a lesson about real power from a humble source — flowers.

The testimony should be fun. I think it extremely likely the Atlantic made sure the reporting was impeccable. (But there will a protect the sources issue.)

Not what the fossil fuel oligarchs had in mind, exactly. But very, very nice.

seven months on beehiiv, by the numbers was leaving substack worth it?

There's a lot of talk about leaving Substack & whether it will be the death-knell of your newsletter. I have been on Beehiiv for 7 months now & @tlpavlich.gay helped me run some numbers. So, was leaving Substack worth it? The answer, for me, has been a resounding "yes."

Here are the hard numbers:

Oh but I do. Read all the way to the last paragraph: "a grotesquely corrupted and unaccountable supreme court."

The men who are attempting to contextualize the horrific actions of Justin Fairfax are sending a clear signal that violence against women can be justified by supposed stress.

screenshot from linked to essay that reads:
What is new is that, starting around 2015—in the wake of increased trans visibility in the media (sometimes called the “transgender tipping point”) and the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell legalizing same-sex marriage—social conservatives began shifting their efforts toward targeting trans people instead. The attacks have since grown into a highly coordinated and well–funded movement that churns out both anti-trans and broader anti-LGBTQ legislation at unprecedented levels. This is the real reason why Republicans have become obsessed with “fairness in women’s sports,” “biological sex,” “social contagion,” “restrooms,” “grooming,” and other soundbites that didn’t exist ten or fifteen years ago.
In other words, there hasn’t been an organic shift in public opinion on trans people but rather a massive astroturfing campaign against us.

...btw I link to evidence that the anti-trans backlash was a highly coordinated and well–funded (especially via right-wing orgs) movement in this essay: www.bostonreview.net/forum/how-no...

In its tech and in its eugenics, Silicon Valley has such a sad mechanical notion of what intelligence is, one bereft of moral beauty, emotional intelligence, intuition, etc. But in a more meaningful definition of intelligence the titans of industry would discover their own bereftness and dimness.

Two striking things about the new surge of far-right ideology and activity inadvertently confirm that the changes over the past several decades have been immense and impactful. One is how these brutal politics are a backlash against the vision of interconnection. The other is in how the right sees the many elements—environmentalism, feminism, queer rights, equality, racial justice, and inclusion, even kindness—as related, as part of the same cosmology (or in their terms, agenda)—all part of the new world struggling to be born and sharing some ideological essentials. The dying old world is furious at all of it and lurches into monstrosity in reaction to it. I've often thought our enemies believe in us even when we don't believe in ourselves, and this is confirmation that they believe we've changed the world in consequential ways, and with a coherent vision.

First & foremost, @lindseyboylan.bsky.social is more than deserving of this endorsement.

Second & just as important, fuck this headline. Lindsey didn’t accuse Cuomo of harassment. Cuomo harassed Lindsey. Period. She is not an accusor. She is a survivor-advocate. Show some respect. Report the truth.

Interview some kids aka young adults at the No Kings because there are bound to be some with different opinions than the ones he got. Also, just before March's No Kings, a sudden wave of apparently astroturf disparagement arose and had an impact, and the students he quote seem influenced by it.
