Bob Dylan's career has lasted the better part of sixty years now. He has never gotten by on sentimentality or nostalgia. He has never repeated his successes. Dylan has always pushed his work ahead. The Raising Canes River Center is a clear bag facility"

👏🏼The Choctaw Nation has purchased a warehouse in Oklahoma that ICE was trying to buy and use as a detention center. www.projectsaltbox.com/p/choctaw-na...
watching Bull Durham on TCM. there once was an evocative shot of a car driving away/past on a country road that was perfect between ~1988 and ~1995. bull durham, funny farm, a river runs through it. maybe it extended all the way to nobody’s fool? grumpy old men? a little, specific thing of beauty.
Chicago’s late Tony Fitzpatrick has one scene in PATRIOT that is pantheon physical comedy. Every Chicagoan should see PATRIOT for this one scene.
More akin to a source text for Low Life than the researched work, itself, but definitely worth tracking down as a supplemental history:

like his money is most valuable on Mars
honestly, people need to internalize that elon’s wealth is not in $, it is in TeslaBucks
Another WHY that’s going WILDLY unexplored: he’s getting paid to do it! Reports by Newswek/LatinTimes that he may have taken Maduro for the direct benefit of SPECIFIC mega-donors (John Addison, $6M MAGA PAC, Paul Singer, $5M MAGA PAC). And then, there’s this:

pulling this reflection on white silence/fear over here, too:
this is beautiful!
Heard a rumor that the NDAs BC made Wizzo and Cookie sign before that NYE gig poisoned the well for future collabs :(
Agent Cooper at the end of TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN
The Four Marx Brothers: (L-R) Zeppo, Harpo, Chico, Groucho
Nine Marx Bros. movies are on TCM New Year’s Eve from 5:30am-8pm ET.
Six of the films aren’t on any subscription or ad-supported streaming service, so don’t miss out.

I don’t know why this movie is so fully lost…
ICE has been cracking down hard across the vast expanse of the greater Chicago area, and I wrote a little bit about what you need to understand about what it’s like here now. Plus, I compiled some resources for locals to get alerts and whistles. dansinker.com/posts/202…
Different career path, for sure, but so few able to do the actor as “embrace.”
pretty sure i’m going to be at 3 views in my first week, which is not at all usual for me. truly, what a picture.
Even worse, I think it’s pretty charitable, and maybe not all that founded, to call these businesses “terrified.”
personal take is that the fascist thought and nazism is just the most potent lean-in on the nihilism. often feels like it’s a uniform on top of the nihilism, not the foundation.
6 days after Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968, a Prague paper published these “10 Commandments”:
‘When a Soviet soldier comes to you, YOU:
1. Don’t know
2. Don’t care
3. Don’t tell
4. Don’t have
5. Don’t know how to
6. Don’t give
7. Can’t do
8. Don’t sell
9. Don’t show
10. Do nothing’
a simple (admittedly deranged) example of this in reverse is Kinzinger’s popularity across the bipartisan center in IL, which i bet could net him a good share of votes in the Gov or Sen races here.
this is useful but i think it misses a dynamic in dem-dominated states/cities. in chicago, the “centrist” is always almost an R. and i think that’s important bc is if the DNC olds just ran their optimal candidates as straight D-defector Rs in Purple/R states, we’d have a healthier country.
A divisive movie championed by Walter Chaw is precisely my taste. Planning to see it in Chicago with Aster Q&A.
Ideally, a country should be led by a person that understands that other people are real.
I think the moment in Twilight where Newman momentarily discusses the nature of his, erm… injury, is something that almost no other actor could have delivered without bricking the movie. Pure craft.
Look on the bright side—I think Trump MAYBE just admitted that he pays Kid Rock and Ted Nugent to have dinner with him.
Was talking about this with a friend, and Jordan Peele is one of the only other proximally aged directors we could think of. (Along with Greta Gerwig, and at a lesser box-office level, Robert Eggers and the Safdies.)
