Huge news: Jordan Acker, who infamously pushed state to prosecute UM student protestors, loses bid for re-election to UM Regents. The winner: Amir Makled, who provided pro bono legal support to those same UM students. Enormous victory for the Palestine/student solidarity movement.

Wow! Congrats!
So proud of an athlete I coach, Kristian Jamieson, an incredible person and descendent of the great Tom Longboat.
Kristian just ran the Boston Marathon in 2:33:48 and came 532nd overall.

Listening to @endofsportpod.bsky.social 's @nkalamb.bsky.social + @derekcrim.bsky.social talk about college football!
As someone who went to high school in Ohio, it's really moving to hear people call out the racial capitalism of college football.

Dystopia-maxxing: a predictions market announcing that the US is intending to wage an illegal war of aggression against the beleaguered people of Cuba.
Fuck this timeline. Truly.

April 13, 2026 – Online sports betting is growing as a facet of American life, with 27% of Americans and half of men ages 18-49 (52%) saying they have an active account with an online sportsbook such as DraftKings, Caesars, FanDuel, or BetMGM, according to a new survey of United States residents released today by the Siena Research Institute (SRI) and St. Bonaventure University’s Jandoli School of Communication. This trend is up from 22% of Americans in 2025 and 19% in 2024, showing a slow but steady increase in online sports betting interest over the past few years of the survey. A third of Americans (33%) say they have opened an account at least once.
52% of US men between the ages of 18-49 have an active sports betting account.
This is what you get when the sports/media complex goes all-in on gambling.
Hard to overstate how troubling a development this is for fans and athletes alike.

Former Syracuse basketball player to be deported after more than a month in ICE custody
26 years old from South Sudan. He has been in the US since age 13, when he was recruited to the country for basketball.
Now being discarded as if he was human refuse.
Shame on Syracuse for not intervening.

Besides, Mossad’s intelligence indicated that street protests inside Iran would begin again and — with the impetus of the Israeli spy agency helping to foment riots and rebellion — an intense bombing campaign could foster the conditions for the Iranian opposition to overthrow the regime. The Israelis also raised the prospect of Iranian Kurdish fighters crossing the border from Iraq to open a ground front in the northwest, further stretching the regime’s forces and accelerating its collapse.
The NYT straight up reports that Mossad is responsible for fomenting protest in Iran.
Congratulations to all who have collaborated.

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again."
A clear, indisputable statement of intent.
Thanks Zach!
A hardcover library copy of The End of College Football: On the Human Cost of an All-American Game by Nathan Kalman-Lamb and Derek Silva in my lap
It has taken way too long to get to this book in my to-read pile, & I'm already regretting not tucking in sooner. Started this afternoon after getting home from campus. I'm already a third of the way through...
Thanks for this timely and powerful work, @nkalamb.bsky.social & @derekcrim.bsky.social.
what’s funnier? this buffoon cheering on the death of his own profession from the comfort of a red state or the fact he is a “professor of sociology” and actually thinks the discipline started with shitty durkheim lmfao

It’s an obvious point that somehow has been obfuscated to the point of (mostly) omission.
Pay labor, not the administrative/overseer class. In sports and elsewhere.
Genocide apologists gonna genocide apologize.
