Apparently, tickets for @ericaborgstrom.bsky.social & my inaugural lectures are 'going fast'. I have no idea what this means, since 10,000 online tickets are available - it seems implausible that any inaugural lecture is that popular... But hey, gets yours quick!

My 1st research-focused intimation of mortality: thinking about the huge rise in young people claiming bisexual/pansexual identities & wondering whether they would keep these identities throughout their lives and into old age. I will never know! So frustrating! Please will someone somehow inform me?
Perseverance. Previously I would have gone for Competence but being chronically ill makes me less competent.

BiCon 2026 bookings now open!
When: 21st-23rd August 2026
Where: Nottingham, UK
Why: because it's a wonderful weekend of talking and socialising. It's the UK's longest continually running annual LGBTQ+ event for a reason...
How: 2026.bicon.org.uk
Who: you?
I mean obviously there will be some reference, but it may not be a major topic.
Yes, on YouTube on the OU channel. I'm not sure how much I'm going to be talking about bi+ stuff yet - 35 minutes is surprisingly little time and I may have committed myself to too many topics!

Even if you don't like brutalist architecture (I do) you have to admit this is beautiful, surely? #LoveMiltonKeynes

My feelings about pinkwashing have changed a lot over the last few years. More of this please! (The image on the office block, although I also love the Nigerian- inspired floor mural)
I am giving an inaugural lecture! If you'd like to hear me talking about queer joy, ageing, sexuality & being an academic, you can sign up here to attend online or in person www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/reimaginin...
You can also hear my brilliant colleague @ericaborgstrom.bsky.social on death and grief
Deadline extended to the 8th April. Now particularly looking for contributions from South/Central America, Africa and Oceania. Or for chapters thinking about language/translation/slang and how working in languages other than English helps us rethink identity categories and identitarian frameworks
The content is queerer and less mainstream than this image, which we did not choose, suggests...

250 word abstracts by 16th March 2026. 5k chapters due by early 2027, some scope for non-traditional forms of academic writing, such as roundtables & reflexive accounts. Planning for an Open Access book likely with Routledge.
& methodological frames through which these experiences are studied. Chapters will present new knowledge about the lives of queer older people & interrogate & reconfigure concepts that are often taken-for-granted in LGBTQ+ gerontology, such as queer visibility, successful ageing & ageing in place.
on the impact of geo-temporal contexts on queer later lives, chapters will examine how politics, history, legal frameworks, differences of state provision for later life, economic context, public discourse etc. shape the lived experiences of older LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as the theoretical [...]
Anglo-American assumptions and theorisations become reified and taken as universal. The ambition of this volume is to centre non-Anglo-American contexts of queer ageing so and so offer better tools for theorising ageing, sexuality, gender and older LGBTQ+ lives globally. Focusing specifically [...]

Rethinking queer ageing: The significance of geo-temporal contexts. Edited by Linn Sandberg, Rebeka Põldsam and Rebecca L. Jones (me!)
Academic understandings of LGBTQ+ ageing are dominated by Anglo-American contexts, which means that [...]
... lots of sex-related topics. It's decently global and intersectional- not just white feminism like some of the other books I looked at, and trans-inclusive. A good book for dipping into because of the sectional format. I would say it's 'clearly explained' not 'simply explained'. I recommend it.
In case it's useful to anyone else, I went for this one in the end: www.worldofbooks.com/en-gb/produc...? It's not specifically about sex but, despite the misleading implication of 'simply explained', it's proper overviews of loads of different movements and moments in feminism, including [cont.d]

Oh yes, I'd forgotten them, thank you. Great suggestion.
... gender and are going on about biological differences in sexual responses in a way I don't think is helpful. I'm also wanting something sex-positive (or sex-neutral).
Any recommendations for recent readable books/articles on feminist approaches to sex, for a young woman? I've already recommended my go-to uk.jkp.com/products/how... but am looking for something where the feminism is more explicit. A lot of the popular books I'm finding are quite binary about [...]
