Not only is it your right, it's literally money you never had at all and thus not income anyway!! A write-off is just accounting for money you DID NOT REALIZE AS GAINS!!

Write-offs are not freebies from the govt!! It's just math!

For anyone who doesn't know this, Form 1099-K only reports total funds received though a payment processor, it does not report taxable income or most of the fees the payment processors charge. The burden is on you to figure out what portion of it is actually income, which fucking sucks

if you want to know how important it is for you to do this math: the fees patreon took from me in 2025 add up to roughly 3 months of income. that's 3 months of income i would have paid taxes on if i didn't deduct the fees from the 1099. 3 months of income i never actually had!
