We’re gonna light $h1t on fire and scan it with a radar (or lidar)!
Seriously though, we’re working with forest/land managers to actually meet their needs toward better decision-making for public & firefighter safety. I’m pretty darn proud of this project.

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was demolished by Musk’s team shortly after midnight. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 billion.
As the weather community experiences tremendous challenges, I couldn't chose a better cause to promote. Please consider showing your support for Andy Hazelton as he and his family explore next steps following federal employment layoffs this week.

One of the most fun parades and krewes in Mobile!!! (RIP Doc Sebastian)
That circulation was close enough that I put the dog and computers in our safe space. Gotta love February squall lines in the South.
They are plowing Rampart!
10/x Conference / New Orleans calories don’t count! Enjoy all the poboys, gumbo, sauce piquante, etouffee, oysters, crab, speckled trout, redfish, & duck you can while here!
9/x New Orleans isn’t the South, so don’t expect sweet tea here - especially in the Quarter. This is a mixing pot of cultures & dialects, but they typically don’t do sweet tea
8/x Take the streetcar (NOT a trolley) at some point, especially through the Garden District
7/x If someone says “I bet I can tell you where you got your shoes!” or something similar, just keep walking and don’t engage
6/x If a place says “authentic” Cajun/Creole, it’s probably a tourist trap
5/x Stay in groups or take rideshare late a night even if you think the walk isn’t that far - It’s just safer
4/x Frenchmen Street is a fantastic place for music and nightlife. A MUST stop before you leave!
3/x The Garden District, Uptown, Mid City, and Bucktown have some fantastic *local* restaurants. It’s worth checking out places besides the French Quarter!
2/x Don’t wear your conference lanyard & badge outside of the convention center. Look up and around - Don’t make yourself an easy mark!
1/x For those first-timers to New Orleans or #AMS2025, welcome to fantastic city full of life, music, food, & culture. Here are some tips:

The perfect time to grab a late lunch on a Saturday during the Iron Bowl
Wow. Here is one to brighten up your morning. The first images of the restored interior of Notre Dame cathedral. Breathtaking. In just five years France did it
The number of new users/posters per day seems to have plateaued over the past week. Another surge after people spend time with their families for Thanksgiving?

Sauteed trinity - onions, bell pepper, & celery
Andouille sausage
Sausage & ham gumbo
I usually post my Thanksgiving gumbo on the other site, so it’s a big deal to switch such important content to bluesky.
DBT. Southern Rock Opera. Ryman. Yes.
That was short-lived. Got to enjoy half a quarter.
This image will be in the NASA calendar for 2025. One of the most detailed red sprites I have captured. Plasma physics is both beautiful and wild. Available as a print on my website for those who'd like to support my work
Overhead at the hotel happy hour (I did not chime in):
Guy 1: That bomb cyclone knocked out power to a bunch of places in the Northwest
Guy 2: At least it’s not one of those river things
Guy 1: It’s that, too
I don’t want a Trump-bler, but now I do want a Stanley with Stanley.
