I am currently a dept chair, about to end a 3+1 term in 67 days. Yes there is a countdown app on my phone.

The longer I was in those roles, the worse I felt. I couldn't formulate a single creative thought, not a funny quip, not the energy to even scroll and retweet.

I had entered administrative roles and found myself suddenly overwhelmed and mentally and physically taxed to the point where I couldn't generate anything meaningful to contribute to a conversation.

I'm going to endeavor to be more active on here. There was a time when I was very active on that other platform. But even my last year or so on there was not very engaged.

I've had this peace lily for almost 8 years. This is the first time it has bloomed in over 6. There's a life metaphor in there somewhere.

I look all around and all I see are walls.
