Just recommended this album to a few friends today, it really is so good and so perfect for this moment! (and god, Go! is so good!)
A tub of Nutella floating around the capsule. Thanks to Artemis II that's the furthest a tub of Nutella has been from Earth. #Artemisii #Artemis
how dare u abandon him
Anyway I love space, and I'm glad we're going back to the moon. It's long overdue. And if I can recommend a good book on Astronaut Group 8, the first to include women or people of color, it is The New Guys by Meredith Bagby
And this is in no way to diminish the VERY VERY HARD WORK that was done to make that happen—Sally Ride and Richard Feynman in particular with the Rogers Commission. The program closed for *two and a half years* (Apollo paused manned missions after Apollo 1 for a year and a half—remarkable as well)
I am thrilled with the successful launch today, but I do see people nervous thinking about Challenger & it bears pointing out that throughout our very long manned spaceflight program, that was the only accident at launch and one of 3 fatal incidents. There were 110 shuttle launches post-Challenger!
and thus an Ed Baldwin for this generation will be born
Infrastructure at the pads changed for Shuttle, Falcon, etc. (Artemis II launching from same pad as Apollo 10). Saturn V not reusable & they only built what they needed, anything in museums is a test or pieced together from one that launched. Plus built for Apollo CSM+LEM. And just v v old tech!
I love placeholder assets 🏗️
A map showing streets and rail lines of Washington City with street pavement types. Includes legend of street pavement types and mileage table. Map is in the Annual Report of the D.C. Commissioners for the year ending June 30, 1882. From the People's Archive of the DC Public Library.
Look at this incredible 1883 color-coded map of Washington showing the varieties of street pavement. From the People's Archive of the DC Public Library.

really can't be said enough that this case was decided by the same court that decided plessy v. ferguson. if they could have found a plausible rationale to limit birthright citizenship they would have done it. but there is none! the text is as clear as constitutional language can be.
comment in a google doc where I clarify the spelling of the Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme
it ain't much, but it's honest work
a model of a washington state ferry but it holds fish and chips with two dips at the fore and aft
never wanted a concession item more than the seattle mariners + washington state ferries lil boat
oh shit oh fuck
honestly a compelling case
the covers of four criterion collection films: Brief Encounter, The Player, Rebecca and F For Fake
not too too much damage in the criterion flash sale even though I almost bought Double Indemnity a second time
The Good Shit™️
incredible caption as well
Oilene the sexy oil derrick puppet
A puppet of a sexy black cat holding a pink piece of fabric
A puppet clown on a skateboard
A puppet rainbow trout
Did you know that you can “adopt” puppets from the Bob Baker Marionette Theatre to support their work AND one of them is named Oilene and is a sexy oil derrick? 🙏🏼

Do yourself a favor and check out the Never's End demo—it's a real delight to play AND is all in 3D which is a masterful feat (and they'll be doing a talk at GDC about it this week if you want to learn more!)
Also I will never shut up about Pack Cat, your companion slash backpack 💖
Internet is back and I wrote 750 words 😌🙏🏼
Me: running around the house screaming because we have no internet since Wednesday
Also me: not working on the short story that’s due to my writing group that does not require internet to finish
Oh right, I'll be at GDC next week! 😵💫 I'll be attempting a low-key GDC (difficulty: impossible) and if you're looking for social / community support in the back half of the year (or just want to say hi), please let me know!
Truly, the culture wars were a helluva time to talk about memory / memorialization or anything like that, let alone build a monument 😬
Oh this is a fascinating read! I so loved living in the DC area because of its rich, complicated, and bizarre history that permeates everything (like, I wrote my master's thesis on the rollercoaster that is the WWII memorial) and is so often written off, so I can't wait to read the whole series

Time is a flat circle
La La Land was also my answer to this for exactly that reason hahahaha
How to describe THE APPLE??
A movie that contains an evil music executive, rock opera, God in a Rolls Royce, Canadian folk music stars, actual sequence set in Hell, and one vampire.
Time to watch it on the big screen as Mr Boogalow intended:
