Can't see the article but the decoupling argument seems misguided to me. Why stop there? Why not make the clean energy finished give it away for free why the ff producers charge what they like for their dirty energy?

Why cheap power could matter more than clean power in the push for net zero The question of how important making our electricity clean is to going green is coming under increasing scrutiny

What did you make of this nonsense?

Snow was general all over Stroud. It was falling upon the Tesco Express from its toilet seats and, further westwards, falling into its car park. It was falling too upon the chained trolleys. It lay drifted upon the dashboard of James Joyce's BMW . . .

With any luck he'll decide he wants to become Pope rather than President.

... Electric expensive because blah.
Therefore, instead of decarbonising power asap, ditch renewable plans for cheap ff power (from where?) to transition people quickly to electric cars + heatpumps, because then we'll accept price rises to decarbonise the electricity we're more reliant on???

I'm baffled by this piece. Do I understand correctly...?

The BBC undercover investigation into false immigration claims is deeply irresponsible journalism. It does not highlight that exploitation by unregulated advisors occurs because legal aid was cut and the system is insane to navigate.

TBH, if this is correct, I hadn't realized a lot of these tracks were cornet, including Potato Head Blues in 1927? I thought he switched in 1926.

At the expense of those of us not yet drawing pensions working longer while current pensioners fund several holidays a year and kitchen refurbs. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The e-hire-bike boom seems an effective refutation of the helmet advocates. No doubt there will be more injuries because of speed and inexperience but if the claims about helmets were true we'd surely be seeing an epidemic of major head injuries and head deaths from hire-bikes.

Thing is, no data is perfect. But it's not like J.P. devised some devious measure of his own to prove his point. These are govt stats carefully designed to measure standard of living etc. (I guess the conspiracy minded will say the civil service are deliberately producing misleading stats).

Real income = inflation adjusted. Yes, the inflation adjustment won't capture the differential impact of some rising costs on different groups, but general rising costs are accounted for.

Yes, you're right, if the proportion of household in work changes that could distort things a bit.

It's real income, so it does account for rising non housing costs. And it's also equivalised so accounts for differences in households, albeit he says imperfectly.

It's pretty unlikely that someone on the median income would be queuing at your local food bank.

I meant a vehicle might be heavier because more powerful without being larger.

That seems very surprising. Maybe if you compared the same size/power. But no-one replaces like for like.

The point was about changing disposable income for the population. Housing is such a significant essential that you have to take it into consideration. Yes, it would be interesting to see also just for those with housing costs, but to discuss society as a whole then it's relevant to include all.
