But how can we a) blame immigrants for high unemployment and b) give up all our civil rights because the country has completely fallen apart if a) unemployment is low and b) the the country hasn't completely fallen apart?

It would be great if #Democrats were as ferociously committed to achieving our goals as Republicans have been. And, newsflash, voting for a third party candidate who has no chance of winning the election is not being committed to achieving our goals.

I really do think your analysis on FACE TO FACE will go down as *the* standard reading of the film from here on. It's been utterly misunderstood for too long.

I'm still figuring out how to use this, since I was never good at Twitter but ween myself off of FB. How about this? I just saw #thebrutalist. Great narrative and acting. The filmmaking didn't do much for me. Seemed like István Szabó coasting. Does that get me any friends or people blocking me?

Although I'm not 62, the kid at #Cinemark sold me a senior ticket w/o asking if I was a senior. I feel bad that #Almodovar won't get the other $2, but in some ways it's appropriate; the film IS all about death. Weirdly for a Friday night, I was the only person in the theatre. Just me. Me and death.

I just found the tone so monotonous. Sodden dread for two hours and 10 minurtes, with nothing contrasted to it.

Someone had to say it. Herzog is still undefeated.

Brilliant #WomanoftheHour #Netflix film by director #AnnaKendrick deserves FAR more attention & 👁️balls. Combining #Hollywood filmmaking at its best w. unsettling nots to #NewFrenchExtremity: #CatherineBreillat #BrunoDumont. It's a new #feminist classic. More complex/sophisticated than it might seem.

“I Guess We’re All a Little Afraid of What We Love” Curtis Harrington and Queer Avant-Garde Horror Published in Quarterly Review of Film and Video (Ahead of Print, 2024)

I suppose I should promote myself on here a bit more, yeah?

My research focuses on horror, mostly through the frameworks of gender and sexuality.

Here is my most recent publication on queer horror/experimental filmmaker Curtis Harrington:

Was ZOLA less awards worthy than ANORA? I know the former had award season handicaps being comedy/film from a less well known director. Still, their surface (and deeper) similarities invites the question. I know which one I liked the most #femalefilmmakerfriday #zola #janiczabravo #rileykeough

I've never really enjoyed having my soul sucked, though.

I feel like I'll either, a) love, love, love it, or b) find it a soul-sucking, cynical corporate piece of "content."

I love collecting old newspaper movie ads and I have to say, one of the things I've learned is that people in the cinema distribution and exhibition businesses have an odd idea of what constitutes an "Easter movie."

Once I tweeted a casual response to an article someone posted re a 250 year old turtle's bday party at a zoo. I said something like, "they can't know today's its exact bday." People attacked for 12 hrs: "Anti-science moron," "Yes, jerk, w. DNA they know to the exact day..." etc. That's when I left.

I have no idea how Bluesky is supposed to work. Is it a Twitter/X substitute? A Facebook substitute? I'll try to figure it out. In the meantime, here's an alarming juxtaposition of shots from Werner Herzog's first feature, SIGNS OF LIFE (1968).
