First saw this story over on Threads, and people really, really, really did not like anyone correcting misinformation about their misreading of the story. We seem to be moving to some sort of post-reality where people just want fake stories that reinforce their beliefs.

I feel that a better, albeit obscure & antiquated answer, is Ultima VII. The RPG elements are pared down from earlier installments, its written by a professional novelist, & its sensibilities run nearer DE's than your typical RPG, I think; it's a funny game & the villains are fantasy Scientology
