100% stand by my quote about the MWRA Board voting for more sewage dumping forever
"Emily Norton, executive director of the Charles River Watershed Association, called the vote “abominable and embarrassing.”

As data centers are being constructed at unprecedented rates, they have significant impacts on our communities and rivers. As our nation navigates forward, we must balance the impacts on our precious water resources.

Civilizing American Cities: Writings On City Landscapes by Frederick Law Olmsted

Once he gained his executive appointment to the Sanitary Commission, Olmsted pursued the measurement project with great enthusiasm, drawing up a lengthy questionnaire ("Form E") and devising two portable versions of the andrometer-an anthropometric measuring device —with the goal of determining what the commission called ethnic taxonomies. Smithsonian president Henry had chosen an experienced, committed successor: in 1859, Olmsted had conducted anthropometric measurements of some 1,000 white, largely immigrant workers employed in the construction of New York City's Central Park. For this reason, Henry had good reason to place his confidence in Olmsted as the USSC's executive secretary to follow through with their shared interest in the "peculiarities of the different nationalities," "stock," or ethnic taxonomies, which Henry expected to find embodied in Union troops.48 Also, in 1862 Olmsted lobbied hard for the superintendency of refugees from slavery at Port Royal, South Carolina, in the process revealing his deep intellectual commitments to white supremacy and Black inferiority (see chapter 2).
Interesting details about Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. dabbling in race science during the construction of Central Park and then during the Civil War.

This #BlackHistoryMonth, Boston Parks and Recreation is honoring Black Bostonians whose legacies live on in our parks. Today, we’re celebrating Clarence “Jeep” Jones, a well known activist who was deeply involved within the Roxbury community and Boston's first Black Deputy Mayor.

Today's alt #BirdOfTheDay theme is #green, so here's an obvious one, a male mallard I saw yesterday.

Join us on Thursday, 1/29, from 6-7:30 pm on Zoom for ‘Meet the Author’ with Stanley Greenberg. In his book, “Olmsted Trees”, Greenberg photographs historic trees from Frederick Law Olmsted’s parks nationwide, connecting them to the landscape designer’s original visions. tinyurl.com/4xxybbh2
A monochromatic photo of the Charles River looking across to Boston. The trees are covered and outlined with snow. The sky is white with promise of more snowfall. The still water is dark and tranquil.
A very monochromatic view from the banks of the Charles River. This is not a black & white film or thectesult of any filters. This was a color shot from early Monday morning, MLK Day. #photography #SkyPhotos 📸 #photos
