Blind obedience does not prepare children for freedom. It teaches compliance, not critical thought. The freedom we want for children starts with what we give them now: safety, security, and space to think. Liberation begins long before adulthood.

“Do you have a middle name?”

“Post a pic from the year you graduated high school!”

These are not “getting to know you” topics, they are personally identifying details.

Bc it is never ever accompanied by talk of safe water, clean air, safe birthing, living wages, free childcare, or any of the proven things that would support increased birth.

won't you celebrate with me
by Lucille Clifton

won't you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.

Missed a week with my 8th graders due to the storm, so one last Black History Month poem as a bridge into Women's History Month.

This one is by Lucille Clifton, which has a line I think about often:

"come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed."

I know that I sound like a broken record but I think once this society was ok with accepting mass covid deaths just to be able to eat at Applebees then all bets were off.

there are a lot of people working in the government right now who want to intentionally trigger an apocalypse to create the conditions for the return of jesus christ and I know how crazy that sounds but its absolutely true

It’s insane this is legal. People around Trump are profiting off war and death. I’m introducing legislation ASAP to ban this.

The world could be such a nice place if we allowed it. It's all so goddamn unnecessary. There's no need for any of it. It's so beautiful here. It should be so cool to be alive

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. It’s always a matter of will not resources.

But the work here in Kyiv continues. Warming up in the car, writing in pencil — pen ink freezes — by headlamp.

I think a lot of us get hope wrong. Hope, I do not believe, is an emotion. In fact, hope makes space for lots of emotions to exist alongside it. You can DO hope scared, angry, sad etc...

Hope doesn't find us. We make hope through action and struggle. It's a practice of living and is re-made daily.

It’s not that COVID is causing autism

Autism is genetic. People are born with this neurotype.

It’s that Covid is causing dysautonomia aka messing with your autonomic nervous system, which is making autistic sensory challenges worse & emotional regulation harder for *everyone*

Folks in #publichealth what are we doing to raise morale? I worked in consulting (evaluation) and lost my job in Nov '25 due to this administration's priorities. I'm trying to get back on my feet and I'm not sure how to start. Gonna apply for a fellowship but it feels like my career goals are shot.

over the course of 1871, congress held seven months of hearings on ku klux klan and other white vigilante violence in the south, they took detailed testimony from hundreds of black men and women attesting to klan terror. (1/?)
