I agree with your views. I use them as tool to help transform the way my lab conducts research from generating code/checking code, extracting discrete data from unstructured sources, synthesizing literature, etc. They are a means to an end.
In that case, I am also a shill for the Student's t-test, Fisher's exact test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, principal component analysis, logistic regression, Kaplan-Meier curves, Classification and Regression Trees, adaptive regression splines, LASSO....to name a few. ⌨️🖥️
