is it possible to buy any of the effects individually? i'm interested in only a couple of them, so i don't want to drop a couple hundo on the whole package when i wouldn't have any use for most of them…

been a couple years since I wrote a dumb pathtracer-in-a-shader; felt that itch again and decided to brush off the cobwebs by 'covering'/'blatantly ripping off' noby's brilliant 10yo 4k www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r8p...

do YouTube video essayists know that titling your video in the form "The Adjective Noun of Adjective Nouns" or anything similar immediately signals that it's absolutely not worth watching at all

The Scene Is Dead - Razor1911 | 64k Revision 2012 YouTube video by Demoscene High-Quality Videos (Annikras)

a version of this track was indeed used in a 2012 64k intro of the same name, although using the v2 softsynth instead of being a tracker module www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFXI...

played at the MTG premodern finnish nationals yesterday with this Replenish deck, 4-2 results for a 10th placement overall :)

tied in points for top-8, not good enough in the tie-breakers to qualify, but very happy with the result anyway!

We made a Nintendo 64 demo for Revision 2025!

📺 youtu.be/v3wYV6gxJII

It has baked lighting with normal mapping, specular shading (at the end), and of course bloom. The beautiful song was made by @prismbeings.com with guitar performed by soundcloud.com/sou_andrade

Some development notes below.

4x5 or 5x4 Large format digital back model LS45 4x5 or 5x4 Large format digital back model LS45

large format digital backs are niche but they do exist! the bellows are just part of the optical system for lens movements like tilt-shift

for backs there is e.g. largesense.com/index.php/pr...

I made an attempt to create this kind of material. Also, this is the first shader I'm posting about on this new Bluesky account! www.shadertoy.com/view/Wfs3RN

I’m dreaming of a world where everyone steals OpenAI’s world consuming garbage and gives it away for free.

I got tired of people relying on other people's code to build demos (or games for that matter) so here's a tutorial in 40 steps and ~400 lines of C++ on how to build a renderer (with music) in DX11:

My father-in-law is a producer. He is insanely gifted. We were listening to Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites together and I asked him what it would cost to make the FM8 growl patch today. I will never forget his answer…

“We can't, we don't know how to do it.”

add to this RME TotalMix, Digicheck NG and iLok, then Linux might be a viable consideration for music production

Super Mario 64 (1996, Nintendo 64) uses blob shadows for characters.
Left: A blob shadow overlapping with tree shadows. Center: A blob shadow getting clipped using a hardware decal feature. Right: All moving characters and objects have their own shadow. The clipped shadow inside that transparent bubble shows the limitation of the Nintendo 64 decal feature. Screenshots taken in the ares emulator.

I wrote about video game shadow techniques on my blog:

📜 30fps.net/pages/videog...

I've always liked different ways to draw shadows in games. I went and tried to find visually distinct examples and explain their differences. I hope you'll find it inspiring!

iirc twitter elides recompression as long as the upload is under 3 megabytes, and works with even PNG images. it's been that way for years too already

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

bluesky image upload backend still needs a lot of work… resizing to max 2000px on the longest edge is barely acceptable, but always recompressing the input to ~500kb JPGs is just terrible. and none of this is even documented anywhere.

using the same path tracer i also explored trying to render some bauhaus furniture at one point

this one also uses a novel "variance guided bilateral noise reduction scheme" to make the image appear to have uniform noise coverage

series of computer graphics fantasy artwork i made in the past few years

these are all rendered with a simple custom GPU path tracer that fits in a 4 kilobyte executable, along with scene being traced
