โ€˜Epidemicโ€™ of violence against women and girls in UK is getting worse โ€“ report National Audit Office says government attempts to tackle misogynistic violence are hampered by poor coordination

Reading NAO report & brilliant @lexytopping.bsky.social

Discovered that "the Home Office underspent on its own VAWG budget by an average of 15% between 2021-22 and 2023-24".

Utterly bewildering and rage-making when the whole VAWG sector is on its knees.

Rape trials collapse as victims abandon cases amid long court delays Courts logjam in England and Wales contributes to doubling in five years of victims pulling out of prosecutions

As I discussed on Five Live this week- we are failing rape victims at every turn. 5 years of not being able to move on, not get privileged counselling. Not heal. Itโ€™s torturing victims

The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, speaking from a podium, as seen from the audience a few rows back

I very nearly got the chance to speak to the PM at the end but he was whisked away. I would have told him I'm heartened by the government pledge to halve violence against women and girls, but very disappointed he failed to mention it today.

A few reflections on the PM's speech today. As always, it's deeds not words we really want!
