Did you know many billionaires are considered non-taxpayers, so when you see that the top 1% of tax payers pay 40% of the taxes, they’re not included in that count, and are often part of the 30ish% of Americans who pay no federal income taxes, per tax law expert.

screenshot from linked to essay that reads:
What is new is that, starting around 2015—in the wake of increased trans visibility in the media (sometimes called the “transgender tipping point”) and the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell legalizing same-sex marriage—social conservatives began shifting their efforts toward targeting trans people instead. The attacks have since grown into a highly coordinated and well–funded movement that churns out both anti-trans and broader anti-LGBTQ legislation at unprecedented levels. This is the real reason why Republicans have become obsessed with “fairness in women’s sports,” “biological sex,” “social contagion,” “restrooms,” “grooming,” and other soundbites that didn’t exist ten or fifteen years ago.
In other words, there hasn’t been an organic shift in public opinion on trans people but rather a massive astroturfing campaign against us.

France passed a law requiring solar panels on every parking lot with more than 80 spaces.

Equals 10 nuclear reactors
Reduces heat island, shades cars

The US -- 800 million parking spaces. Most of them are uncovered asphalt sitting in direct sunlight.

Why aren't we doing this?

For sane Catholics, this garbage from Trump is not surprising or problematic. It has been more than obvious for decades that Trump’s only interest in Christianity is for personal gain.
For any Catholics - laity, priests, religious, bishops - previously fooled by Trump, it’s ’make your mind up’ time!

Why Would Pentagon Allegedly Threaten Pope's Ambassador With 'Avignon Papacy'? During a January closed-door meeting at the Pentagon, a Trump administration official reportedly warned a Vatican ambassador that America had the military power to do whatever it wants in the world, and that the Catholic Church had better take its side. While the sourcing is limited, the American government confirms the meeting happened (if not the wording used) and Christopher Hale confirms that “some Vatican officials were so alarmed by the Pentagon’s tactics that they shelved plans for Pope Leo XIV to visit the United States later this year [for the celebration of America’s 250th].” All of

I wrote a piece on what I found most fascinating about the Pentagon-Vatican rumors, and that's how it illuminates the problem of Catholic integralism in the far right. Give it a read @religiondispatches.org !

Bad for the Church, and the World Many U.S. bishops remain unwilling to call out Trump's authoritarianism. They would be wise to draw lessons from the Church's history with Italian Fascism.

"A preliminary step would be to detach the Church from Trumpism."

In ‘Creative Evolution’, Henri Bergson challenges Immanuel Kant’s idea that space is the foundation of all understanding, as explored in this hypnotic short by John Brady @epochemagazine.org
