The Boundary Waters has been a federal wilderness area since 1978. So, yeah - it’s not hyperbole to say that what they're really coming after is protected area status. For what gain, you ask? For a Chilean mining conglomerate, Antofagasta, to mine copper, nickel, cobalt & platinum in the US.
Grieving for the Boundary Waters and what it means for all of us — the Senate voting to strip Minnesota’s Boundary Waters of protection from mining pollution sets a precedent for Republicans to tear down protected area status of all other public lands through the Congressional Review Act.
