Good guess!

That’s a lovely story. One problem is that you don’t get a paper ticket these days, so if you get off before they do there is no proof that they paid. I have not seen an inspector in several years now, however, so maybe proof isn’t needed!

UK universities ‘foolish’ to bank on overseas student growth Foreign students no longer a magic bullet for cash-strapped universities as visa changes and pricing wars force leaders to reconsider growth strategies

www.timeshighereducation.com/news/uk-univ... yes, but ... if we were market stall holders.. you said we could only sell apples for 50p. and it didn't matter how much inflation was, 50p was the price. but you also said we could sell peaches for as much as we like, because the price of apples was.. 1.

Community rights to buy review – some thoughts on the Scottish Government’s recommendations In March 2026, the Scottish Government published “proposals to combine Right to Buy legislation to simplify the process for community groups to take over land and assets”. This followed…

The Scottish Government recently aired its proposals for reforming community rights to buy in Scotland. Here's my blog post that seeks to distil and comment on the various recommendations (and indeed non-recommendations). basedrones.wordpress.com/2026/04/13/c...

Available for pre-order now, should legal education be your bag...or maybe you have budget to use up before year end?

Oh, wait, nobody has budget anymore.

But, available in paperback, not prohibitively expensive, & hopefully useful!

That's my pitch!

I am hosting a party for 3 year olds and worrying that my floors are not clean enough. This is the very definition of madness.

Mostly harmless, so long as you are not ordering them to eat, though I understand they are mainly ok for humans but not so much for pets. However, ice cream is better at 2 a.m for humans.

Our recent experience is an example. Husband and I both from similar backgrounds, parents had 3 bed semis in nice areas. Mine died of sudden causes before needing any care. One of his parents spent several years in care. My family have large inheritance, his get virtually nothing.

Oh no! I bet you still talk about it, though! I think everyone pulling together to carry on despite the weather can be quite uplifting … or maybe I am just trying to convince myself!

I have been preparing to host my granddaughter’s birthday party in my garden on Saturday. I had the patio jet washed and everything! The weather forecast now indicates that the party will actually be in my lounge. A dozen preschoolers, high on excitement and sugar. Sodding British weather!
