All cars have got heavier. Current VW Golf is heavier than the og by ~400kg, about the same as driving around with 4 large passengers. The electric VW ID.3 is heavier again by about the same. Diesels are heavier than petrol equivalents, ~100kg in the case of the Ford S-Max. Efficiency vs road wear🤷‍♂️
