I celebrated with a two-day eating festival (breakfast, lunch and dinner and breakfast and an afternoon tea) with different friends and family. Things are good, leading my own research project now, parenting, caring for an elderly cat, learning to ice skate, doing family tree research. All good. :)

Joanna Louise Hope Doctor Jo Hope is a Associate Professor at the University of Southampton

Completed first month of leading our new & exciting project to explore & improve hospital care for people with learning disabilities. We’ve had two fun PPIE meetings and another this week, plus lots of setup work. Still thrilled the NIHR are supporting this work www.southampton.ac.uk/people/5xgq7...

Every academic carries a bag that holds:

• 1 printed out article they intend to (but never) read
• 1 book that they’re late to review
• 1 notebook full of half-finished project ideas
• 1 highlighter that doesn’t work
• 1 USB that they’ve forgotten what’s on it
• Business cards that are out of date

I had an album of the incidental music in an action film - it definitely made washing up feel a lot edgier.

Smokey Robinson and the Miracles dancing in an old black and white video.

Sweetening the process of checking alerts for new papers with a little Motown on the side. Doing an hour each morning. Not actually a bad way to start the day (especially with coffee).
