fuck sam altman forever for taking away the last places where we could engage in good faith: the creative arts, which should be a testament to human ingenuity. i am so mad that everything i read or listen to or admire is now tainted with doubt. do you understand? he is a thief of joy and i HATE HIM

Look at Purolator's profits over that time. Despite being over 90% owned by Can Post and poaching profitable parcel routes from CP, leaving the unprofitable ones, not one cent of their billions in profit over that time counts on CP's books.
CP is being deliberately destroyed and you're being conned.
Hey it's Friday and the Canadian oil industry made $1.5 billion in profits this week.

"What will a generative AI data centre actually produce for its community?" he asked. "We are seeing the answers to this. It is producing stolen content. It is producing false information. It is not producing anything of quality."
Five alarm fire for democracy in Canada.
Not just Alberta.
The whole country.
Not hyperbole. When we take away effective representation, we no longer have a real claim to being a liberal democracy. If Alberta gets away with this, other provinces will follow.
This is awful news, especially for communities living nearby & downstream, but pipeline ruptures like this will become lethal if we allow the oilsands companies to build explosive CO2 pipelines across the province - like the Pathways carbon capture project. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... #ABLeg #ABPoli
I’m so sorry, Katelyn. Sending you love and strength.
Canada didn't have anything equivalent to America's 1978 Indian Child Welfare Act until 2020 and it's still weaker than America's framework. That's four decades, two more generations of assimilation of Native children, continuing the project of residential schools in another form.
Covid causes vascular and other damage and the pro infection policy for children is a terrible decision.

To all of my Canadian pals, do all that you can to fight back and call your MP to kill this awful bill. We can't let the evil win
Doe had broken up with the user in 2024, and he used ChatGPT to process the split, according to emails and communications cited in the lawsuit. Rather than push back on his one-sided account, it repeatedly cast him as rational and wronged, and her as manipulative and unstable. He then took these AI-generated conclusions off the screen and into the real world, using them to stalk and harass her. This manifested in several AI-generated, clinical-looking psychological reports that he distributed to her family, friends, and employer.
For months, her then-fiancé and partner of several years had been fixating on her and their relationship with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. In mid-2024, she explained, they’d hit a rough patch as a couple; in response, he turned to ChatGPT, which he’d previously used for general business-related tasks, for “therapy.” Before she knew it, she recalled, he was spending hours each day talking with the bot, funneling everything she said or did into the model and propounding on pseudo-psychiatric theories about her mental health and behavior. He started to bombard the woman with screenshots of his ChatGPT interactions and copy-pasted AI-generated text, in which the chatbot can be seen armchair-diagnosing her with personality disorders and insisting that she was concealing her real feelings and behavior through coded language. The bot often laced its so-called analyses with flowery spiritual jargon, accusing the woman of engaging in manipulative “rituals.” Trying to communicate with her fiancé was like walking on “ChatGPT eggshells,” the woman recalled. No matter what she tried, ChatGPT would “twist it.” “He would send [screenshots] to me from ChatGPT, and be like, ‘Why does it say this? Why would it say this about you, if this is not true?'” she recounted. “And it was just awful, awful things.”
Shortly after moving out, the former fiancé began to publish multiple videos and images a day on social media accusing the woman of an array of alleged abuses — the same bizarre ideas he’d fixated on so extensively with ChatGPT. In some videos, he stares into the camera, reading from seemingly AI-generated scripts; others feature ChatGPT-generated text overlaid on spiritual or sci-fi-esque graphics. In multiple posts, he describes stabbing the woman. In another, he discusses surveilling her. (The posts, which we’ve reviewed, are intensely disturbing; we’re not quoting directly from them or the man’s ChatGPT transcripts due to concern for the woman’s privacy and safety.) The ex-fiancé also published revenge porn of the woman on social media, shared her full name and other personal information, and doxxed the names and ages of her teenage children from a previous marriage. He created a new TikTok dedicated to harassing content — complete with its own hashtag — and followed the woman’s family, friends, and neighbors, as well as other teens from her kids’ high school. “I’ve lived in this small town my entire life,” said the woman. “I couldn’t leave my house for months… people were messaging me all over my social media, like, ‘Are you safe? Are your kids safe? What is happening right now?'”
A woman sued OpenAI last week alleging that ChatGPT reinforced the obsessive, violent delusions of her stalker (her ex-boyfriend.)
This woman's claims (as detailed by TechCrunch, left) are chillingly similar to those of a completely different woman whose story Futurism reported on in Feb (right):
So far this government has:
- removed EV mandates (and moreover paused rebates to stall the market)
- removed carbon tax
- removed low carbon electricity policy
- removed gasoline tax
- removed oil and gas cap
when does the Canadian Federal government do climate policy?
The best time to stop this bullshit was the day he was elected, second best was after the massive survey. Third is now. No one wants this.
I'm seeing people defending this decision by saying things like "this is eliminating prison LIBRARIANS, not LIBRARIES" so let's take a closer look at that. 1/
Canada’s carceral system disproportionately impacts indigenous peoples and communities. Preventing incarcerated people from accessing libraries is about more than saving a paltry couple million bucks per year. This is disgusting.
Doug Ford is shutting down safe consumption sites while being very keen to open more prisons.
If you do not see how all these things are connected, then congrats. You're the exact voter the Liberals are courting.
Carney's AI remarks were a mash-up of techno-optimism and pure, current C-Suite speak, sprinkled with 'Canada' and 'Canadians'.
"AI for all" is the kind of glib, meaningless messaging that comes out of corporate communications departments. (Trust me, I used to write 🗑️ like that in those depts.)
A couple weeks ago, Nicholas Keung at the Toronto Star reported on how generative AI is being used to assess immigration applications in Canada...and how it's led to refusals because of stuff the AI tool added in, that humans (clearly) failed to check.

these closures are the implementation of the policy choice to exclude a specific group of people from the category of *the public* – this is dehumanization
and it is a choice being made throughout Canada

The luddites worked at home, with their families, where they had the freedom to set their own schedules, or in small shops with their peers. One of the main things luddites were fighting against was the *creation* of sweatshop conditions, which was only enabled by mass mechanization + factorization!
People thought electing Mark Carney would be a good idea because he knows so much about the value of money, but it's because he knows so much about the value of money that he knows so little about the value of life.
Smug ass Canadian Liberals™️ need to realize that the Convoy won.
The organizers were barely punished, the cops that mutinied are still cops, the government is more empowered to survail Canadians than ever before, and that same government has now embraced the Convoy's government supporters.
So tell me, which of these bad ideas from Gladu will be the generational change only a majority can provide?
-Claimed hydroxychloroquine and related treatments had a “nearly 100 per cent recovery rate” for COVID-19.
Got questions about Bill C-22 - the surveillance bill we're calling the worst Canada has ever seen?
Join us for a webinar tomorrow at 12 EST/9 PST about it! With colleagues from the Internet Society and Privacy and Access Council.

I legit had an out-of-nowhere ugly cry when I looked out the window this morning.
Kevin O'Leary is building the world's largest AI datacenter in Alberta Canada. It will consume 24 million cubic meters of water annually (460,000 people's lifetime consumption) and set back 20 years of carbon emission reductions (including all gains made by phasing out coal) unless it's stopped
