Today at Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall, we proudly celebrated the graduation of 26 new EMTs and the promotion of 8members of our department. After 6 months of intensive academy training—and more than 3,000 9-1-1 calls answered in the field —these recruits officially joined our Boston EMS family.

Boston EMS teams were stationed throughout South Boston yesterday — and they needed to be. By day’s end, our members navigated huge crowds, responded to more than 70 patient encounters, and transported 28 patients to area hospitals.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Superintendent Jack Pearsull (C-4, Retired). Jack joined Boston EMS in 1998 and spent nearly a quarter century serving the City of Boston with unwavering dedication, compassion, and humility.

In November, EMT Gunther answered a 911 call from a man experiencing severe emotional distress and expressing intent to self-harm. Andrew used his calm presence and clear communication skills to build trust and ensure the caller remained on the line until help arrived to bring him to safety.
