On One Boston Day, we pause to honor the spirit that has always defined this City: strength, compassion, resilience, and the commitment to show up for one another. Today Boston EMS honors the lives lost and those forever changed on April 15, 2013.

Congratulations to Academy Class 2025-2 and to our newly promoted leaders. Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, and service to the City of Boston.

We also honored 8 members for their well-deserved promotions: 2 stepping into new roles as Lieutenants, and 6 advancing to Paramedic. These are people who lead by example and raise the bar for all of us. We are grateful for their leadership, clinical excellence, and commitment to this City.

Today at Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall, we proudly celebrated the graduation of 26 new EMTs and the promotion of 8members of our department. After 6 months of intensive academy training—and more than 3,000 9-1-1 calls answered in the field —these recruits officially joined our Boston EMS family.

A huge thank-you to our EMTs, Paramedics, dispatchers, and all our public safety partners who helped keep everyone safe.

Boston EMS teams were stationed throughout South Boston yesterday — and they needed to be. By day’s end, our members navigated huge crowds, responded to more than 70 patient encounters, and transported 28 patients to area hospitals.

Some members of Boston EMS who grew up in South Boston want to share a few friendly reminders before the St. Patrick’s Day Parade this weekend. 🍀

Each member of this group earned a department-awarded paramedic scholarship, achieved their paramedic certification, passed the department’s promotional exams, and completed a rigorous three-month paramedic internship. We are proud of their hard work and grateful for their continued service.

Together, they bring nearly 30 years of experience with Boston EMS, demonstrating exceptional dedication, professionalism, and commitment to patient care.

Join us in congratulating our six newest Paramedics - Kevin Pywell, Kwang Koo, Matthew Derby, David Ramos, Sebastian Morales, and Sam Cedrone. All six were promoted from EMT to Paramedic Monday during a private badging ceremony at headquarters.

This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we reflect on Dr. King’s enduring legacy of unity, service, and nonviolence. Boston EMS is honored to uphold these principles through the compassion and care we provide each day to the people of Boston.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Jack’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him. He will be profoundly missed by his Boston EMS family.

His passion for teaching and preparing the next generation of EMTs and Paramedics leaves a lasting legacy—one that will continue to strengthen our department and the broader EMS community for years to come.

Superintendent Pearsull was not only an exceptional clinician and leader, but also a mentor, educator, and trusted colleague whose quiet professionalism and steady guidance shaped countless careers.

Over the years, he rose through the ranks— as an EMT, Paramedic, Shift Commander, Deputy Superintendent, and ultimately Superintendent of Training, Professional Development and Community Initiatives, before retiring in January of 2023.

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Superintendent Jack Pearsull (C-4, Retired). Jack joined Boston EMS in 1998 and spent nearly a quarter century serving the City of Boston with unwavering dedication, compassion, and humility.

His steady professionalism played a critical role in preventing a tragic outcome. Yesterday, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts presented EMT Gunther with a certificate recognizing his outstanding work and compassion during this tense situation. Well done, EMT Gunther.

In November, EMT Gunther answered a 911 call from a man experiencing severe emotional distress and expressing intent to self-harm. Andrew used his calm presence and clear communication skills to build trust and ensure the caller remained on the line until help arrived to bring him to safety.

Boston EMS EMT Telecommunicator Andrew Gunther was honored this week by the Massachusetts State 911 for his exceptional work during a high-risk emergency call last fall.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and the entire Uxbridge Police Department on the devastating loss of their fallen officer. Today, our thoughts are with all who knew him and with those who served alongside him.
