This clearly became a thing with Gamergate, and it’s been getting progressively worse over the past decade. I don’t remember this type of thing being the norm before then.

It has to be an issue borne out of social media culture. It gets into people’s heads in a WEIRD way, man…

You have received the entire series for free. They’re just trying to take advantage of people’s excitement to make some extra money for the independent animation studio they’re trying to run.

That’s too idealistic when you’re talking about indie media. I know for a fact that they would’ve loved to have had every theater chain on earth participate in this event, but the uphill climb comes in convincing every THEATER OWNER on earth that there’s $$ in letting them do so. Hence the campaign.

A very astute (and upsetting!) piece that touches on four scary cultural trends: 1) The demand for spelled-out moral clarity in stories 2) A growing inability to understand different types of narratives 3) The "customer's always right" version of fandom 4) The growth of fandom as a social identity.

It’s not really Glitch’s job, either. People forget because their properties are (fortunately) getting so popular, that at the end of the day, this is INDIE ADULT ANIMATION. The fact that it’s getting a big theater event is special. These folks don’t have Disney’s distribution & marketing.

Out of respect for people unable to watch the theatrical screening of Episode 9, please do not spoil the story for others after you see it.

Of interest to me is the observation that being nonreligious is very "sticky." People raised w/o religion tend to STAY nonreligious in adulthood; On the other hand, a child raised by two Christian parents has a 50/50 chance of remaining Christian.

So, religiosity tends to trend downward overall.
