On this date in 2004 the Red Sox won Game 1 of the WS 11-9 despite 4 Errors. Mark Bellhorn’s 2 Run HR off Pesky’s Pole in the bottom of the 8th was the game winner, breaking a 9-9 tie. With that HR Bellhorn became the 1st 2nd Baseman in MLB history to Homer in 3 straight postseason games.

On this date in 1967 Dick Williams of the Red Sox is named AL MGR of the year. Williams took over the Sox after the 1966 season, which saw the Sox finish 9th in a 10 team league. Williams led the Sox to a AL Pennant and within 1 game of a WS title in 1967. In 3 seasons as Sox MGR he was 260-217.
